Dear Mom, my shero

- Nike

When I was born, I cried a lot
And you had to get up in the middle of the night
You were with me all the time and you thought
"Before you know it all you'll do is fight

All too soon, my first birthday came
And you wondered where that year went
And you said, "I'll never think of her the same."
As you thought about the time that we spent

Soon enough, I was in the toddler stage
I would mess up everything that you had just cleaned.
I'd run in glee, you after me in rage
Me giggling as you screamed

Before you knew it, you were holding my hand
Walking me up that little lane to school
Through a bright red door, past a big box of sand
To a smiling teacher on a little brown stool

This is the first time that we've ever been apart for a day
I'm scared and very shy
I huddle in the corner before I decide to play
So fast, these years go by

So soon, I'm done with elementary
It seems like yesterday
That you said, "Now you see,
School's not so bad. Tell me, what did you play?"

From fifth to sixth, I've made it through
I've had some help from you and my friends
Adjusting to classes and new teachers too
The year flew by and too soon it ends

Seventh grade is gone and now I'm in grade eight
Being a freshman is next year
I don't know if you're looking forward to or dreading that date
Time just goes by and that day is so near

In no time at all, you'll teach me to drive
I'll have to learn all of the rules
When we argue, you'll wish I were back at age five
We'll fight some in those brief duels

In four short years, I'll move away,
I'll be off at college
But only four years I'll stay
Making friends and collecting knowledge

After college, I'll be on my own
I'll have a job and a home and all,
But I'll also have a phone
Don't think I'll forget to call

I'll never forget those lessons you taught me when I was little
Or those stories that you always read
You were never to tired to read 'Hey diddle diddle'
When I was supposed to be asleep in bed

As a mother and daughter, we're a perfect fit,
Even if we do fight a time or two
But you're my mom.
So don't ever forget

As long as I live, I'll love you.
