Why Picking a New Supreme Court Justice Has a Lot to Do With You
- Julia

Okay, so Bush nominated this new dude to decide stuff about the Constitution. Um. So what? Why should I care? At all? Well, here's why-

President Bush happened to choose John Roberts as his nominee. I personally think this was a very well planned move for him, because we know very little about Roberts. His opinions on many political issues aren't out in the open. So people don't know much about him, except that he didn't accept Roe vs. Wade years ago. Well, 1993 was awhile ago, and his opinions may have changed. Either way, we don't have much background information about him. So we can't judge him, and there's no reason to oppose him or support him.

But yet...there is. Because he may be a threat to women's rights (overturning Sandra Day O'Connor's past votes), some women are taking a stand. Seven senators, including Hilary Rodham Clinton, are pressing Roberts to say his postition on Roe vs. Wade, the right to privacy, Title IX, and other women's issues. Because he could change some of these things, making them unsettled law. Whether you want him to overturn the law or just want to keep things the way they are, it's very important to know what he wants to do.

Because, if you think about it, it's him who decides whether or not you can try out for track next spring, or taking the next step in a physical relationship. He's the one who can change your future. So look for him in the news. Find what he thinks.
