Taking Bets: How I Survived Middle School
With all the hubbub of going back to school, especially when going to a new school, one thing is on every student's mind: what if I get a crazy teacher? Well, I'm here to show you not only how to recognize a crazy teacher, but also how to survive a year with one.
The first thing to look for when observing a teacher is how neat their desk is. A messy desk is almost always the calling card of a disorganized teacher who may not know their subject manner. Sometimes however, a brilliant teacher may have their own unconvential organization system. Sign two of a crazy teacher are strange expressions. Anyone who says,"Boot you in the hoo toot" or uses strange stories such as, "my mother was a rhombus and my father was a rectangle. I am the perfect square," to describe polygons is pretty much going to be one strange teacher. Be wary of teachers that have any medical conditions; even something that seems as insignificant as asthma can make for a teacher that can be strange. Sometimes, however, it can be hard to tell the crazies from the regulars. Teachers that give you creative writing assignments every other day of the first two weeks has probably gone mad with the power to give students assignments.
What do you do you get a teacher who is whack? There are several methods to surviving a year with a strange teacher.
- Tip # 1: Get the class behind you; most teachers will stop the crazy if outnumbered.
- Tip # 2: Protest in a fun way, like by saying (in a Scottish accent, of course) "You can take my seat, but you can't take my freedom."
- Tip # 3: Prank unmercilessly. Plan during class and execute afterwards
- Tip # 4: If you're worried about not learning anything in a class, teach yourself. Just ignore what the teacher says and follow your text book. They're usually self-explanatory these days, and you can always ask the smartest kid if you don't get something.
- Tip # 5: If you have a teacher who tries to rob you of all individuality and spirit, be as wild and as wacky as you can be. But remember to get the class behind you, or else your behind might just end up in detention.
So those are my tips and rules to survive school, even if you have a crazy teacher. Follow them, and you will have a blast during school, and pass your classes.
