Vive la Revolution!
By: Caitlin Scarlett
As a crusty oldie, I remember when SheroesCentral used to have a trend called "The Revolution", and to become a member, one had to stop hating their body (or just affirm that they don't). I think it's time for a revival, mes petites. Newsflash, I am always right, and I say that you are beautiful. And for the less gullible majority, while that may not be true I have read your posts. And I have even seen your photographs. And any self-hate, I don't get it. First of all, I don't believe in ugly. I believe in the concept of a body that exists to house you; to keep you warm, to keep your squishy bits safe, to allow you to walk, play, and be. Your body is a composite of your history. Those hips, those cheekbones, those arms; they are your genetic memory. They are your mother, father, great-aunt and grandmother. There is a reason you look the way you do. And whether, to you, it is because God made you that way or a chance placement of chromosomes from your phenotypic grab bag, it is important because that zygote, that fetus, that child is now the body that houses you. This body deserves respect, care taking, love, and you are the only one who can do those things properly. There is no point it hating it; you cannot have another, or shed your skin like a snake or a cicada. There is only purpose in loving it for what it is and who lives inside it. And because you do, it is a beautiful dwelling. Vive la Revolution!
Because this is my first column, I wrote about something that I feel is important. I want to know what YOU think is important, or what you would like to read about, in relation to your body. Send me questions, I'll answer privately and maybe write a column about the issue, if I feel it's something that can help more than one person.
Bless, Rhoz
