OUR BELIEFS It is the belief of the T.R. Smedberg Middle School/Sheldon High School educational community that: 1. Educational practices at Smedberg Middle School/Sheldon High School will promote academic excellence with a focus on learning how to learn. 2. The 7-12 program will enhance student success through a carefully articulated curriculum with an emphasis on academics, arts, athletics, activities and technology. 3. Rigorous academic standards will exist for required and elective courses regardless of career path. 4. Students who are free from the pressures of peer violence and drug use focus more clearly on academic pursuits resulting in increased achievement. 5. All members of the school community; i.e., students, family members, teachers and school members, will share in the responsible achievement of the individual and school wide goals with consideration for the district characteristics and needs of middle school and high school students. 6. Community service will connect to our curriculum so that all students see themselves as contributors to the world at large. 7. Smedberg Middle School/Sheldon High School are committed to develop in each students a clear understanding of what it takes to live and work in a truly multicultural society. 8. Student assessment results guides planning and instructions. 9. A variety of activities will be provided to connect diverse student populations in order to foster ownership in the school. 10.The entire school community members, peers, teachers, families, and staff will develop strategic readers who are able to: · Construct meaning from print · Use appropriate strategies to learn · Develop an interest in reading as a means of lifelong enjoyment |
