 | Sheldon/Smedberg Academies... |
 | One of Smedberg's and Sheldon's secondary school strengths lies in the fact that all students must declare a major or academy by Friday of their ninth grade academic year. Their decision will be based on interest and awareness of programs available through a strong career component which is part of each grade level from 7th grade through 12th. Because of our block schedule, students will be taking two extra electives each year, grades 7-12, for a total of 12 electives by the end of their senior year. This is above and beyond district graduation requirements and the existing electives in a traditional schedule. |

Therefore, in response to industry partners, we will provide a focused training within the student's chosen academics or major area. Through the academy program, students will have the opportunity to be involved in job shadowing at the 11th grade and internships at the 12th grade. They will enter college and the workforce with broad area of expertise. This focused learning will take place in a chosen major or academy. Our academies require 70 credits in designated academy courses; majors require 80 credits.
