It may seem strange that we're already in the Age of Industrialization although it's only around 1000 A.D. Remember that we're playing this game at medium difficulty, which allows us to advance faster than real life. Try playing a game at King or Emperor level and you'll see it will be much more difficult to advance. Besides that remember that we are the most enlightened civilization. Other civilizations are much behind us.
Factory
With Industrialization we also gain Factory. Factories increase shield production by 50 percent. Start building them in your cities.
Espionage
Espionage is a powerful civilization advance because it allows you to build Spies. Spies can perform many tasks: establish an embassy with rival civilization at no cost, investigate an enemy city at no cost, perform an industrial sabotage, steal technology...
Discover Communism and then Espionage. Build at least two or three Spies and steal technology from rivals (providing that they have any you don't) and establish embassies (if you haven't done so yet).
United Nations
Wonder of United Nations will sort of replace Great Wall. While it is not going to provide City Walls for your cities, rival civilizations will still have to offer you peace during negotiations. In addition, United Nations also provide an embassy with every rival civilization and you can declare war under Democracy with 50 percent possibility.
You don't have to build United Nations just yet (it requires whole lot of shields). Built Darwin's Voyage or J. S. Bach's Cathedral first, for example. But if you have the resources, go ahead.
Explosives and Engineers
Explosives are important because they upgrade your Settlers to Engineers. Engineers perform tasks much faster than settlers. They can also transform terrain to any kind you want and perform number of tasks Settlers couldn't.
Discover University, than Chemistry and than Explosives.
Pollution
Pollution may occur around cities with Factories. We will try to eliminate it later by building certain structures, but for now just clear it with Engineers.
Defense
Riflemen should replace Musketeers, so develop Conscription. Continue building City Walls.
Sewer System
Cities require Sewer System to grow over level 12. You need to discover Sanitation to be able to build Sewer Systems.
Buildings
Stock Exchange, Sewer System, Factory and University are the most important buildings of this age. Stock Exchange increases tax/luxury output by 50 percent, Sewer System allow cities to grow over level 12, Factory increases city's shield production by 50 percent and University increases city's science output by 50 percent.
Wonders
Most important wonders of this age:
Eiffel Tower | When first built, every civilization's attitude is immediately shifted 25% in your favor, and continues to gradually improve over time. |
Adam Smith's Trading Co. | Pays the maintenance of all city improvements that cost 1 coin per turn. |
Darwin's Voyage | Immediately grants two civilization advances. |
J. S. Bach's Cathedral | Decreases the number of unhappy citizens by two per city. |
I built Adam Smith's Trading Co., J.S. Bach's Cathedral and Darwin's Voyage. Besides these wonders of Industrial Age, I've already built two modern wonders: United Nations and Hoover Dam.
Irrigation, Mining, Roads and Railroads
Don't forget to continue building Irrigation, Mining, Roads and Railroads. Here's how my infrastructure looks like:
Yours should look similar.
Note: your cities will look like this when you discover Automobile.
Advancing to Modern Age
In my game it's 1752 A.D. I just discovered Automobile (prerequisites are Steel and Combustion) and advanced to Modern Age.
