he
körero - about this site
This site is built for and
dedicated to ngä putiputi who
attended St. Joseph's Mäori Girls College - Hato Hohepa
between the years 1990 - 1993.
We
are all around 29-31 years old now and while some of us are overseas,
have tamariki or 3, in-laws, jobs, degrees, lives & loves - we
still are going strong on the mates scale. Our skura days might have
ended last century, but many of us have remained in each others pockets
which this site is a testiment to... ämene! Plus this site should
provide a good old roffle so that's always a bonus.
An
obvious labour of love, this site is for those who know what it was all
about to be of the following combination - he mäori, he
kötiro, a boarding school kid in the Bay and to grow as a teenager
of the 90's. To think that when Beverly Hills 90120 debuted, we were on
the other side o te ao at St Joes. Yes it was that long ago!
At
Hohepa we acquired some interesting 'how-to' life talents - how to
sweep steps and clean windows like never before; how to engage in the
anti-starvation practice of lining up in dead straight silence before
being herded into the dining hall; how to create a production line for
cleaning hundreds of plates, cups and cutlery; how to serenade the
neighbourhood with a daybreak pöhiri practice; how to be witty yet
obnoxious to power authorities at every turn; how to harmonize on cue
and sing the same song 3 differents ways; how to poi for weeks on end
and learn to play a guitar in one day. And then there was the reason
why we were there - to pass School C or so every parent hoped.
Many
of us would be privy to some undoubtedly sarcastic conversations in the
more than 10 years since leaving; each self-counselling but
laughter-filled körero bringing a new understanding of the whole
situation. Despite the oh-so-harsh climate we experienced, would we do
it all again? A mildy interesting question so many years later. If we
knew the reward of getting mates like no other and some pretty crazy
stories to boot, then most likely...
So
that's what this site is a snapshot of. Take a look around. There's
some awesome links to piks of us in our tragically
influenced 90's flair; waiata (coz you know we loved to
wail...); a bit of lingo
here and there, and just some good old memories of 4 (and even 5 for
some!!) long, yet dare we admit, joyious years at 25 Osier Road,
Greenmeadows, Napier.
Don't
forget - you can give up some love and put a mihi in the guestbook if
you want and check out the shoutouts section.
Well that's my spin. I o mahi katoa, me mahia.
Naku
noa,
