Recipe of the Week | Desserts | Holiday Party 2000

I've always loved to bake and cook, ever since I was a small child. My mother has stories of me at times wanting to help her with whatever she was making, especially if she was baking something. I would pull up my stool to the counter, grab a wooden spoon, and ask for something to do. I insisted on stirring, tasting, and doing whatever I could, even if she really didn't need my help. But that's the way I learned. And learning from my mother really paid off - I can now make just about anything from a recipe.

My favorite things to make are desserts. Cookies are my favorites, but in the last few years I've gotten pretty good at making cheesecakes too - to the delight of all the the sweet-tooth co-workers I use to work with at my previous two employers. Now, with my starting a new job soon, I get to tempt a whole new set of taste buds. Below, you'll find a list of some of my favorite desserts.

I love entertaining and don't really get to do enough of it. I enjoy planning a menu when my parents come to visit or we have a few friends over. In December of 2000 I decided I'd like to have a dinner party and try out some new recipes. I've listed on this page the recipes of most of the items served at the party. The party was a success, but it was a big undertaking - especially with almost 40 people showing up. I definitely want to host another one, but not for a while. Thank goodness I had the help of my parents for the before, during and after portions of the party.
