My Soap-Operatic Life

"All are lunatics, but he who can analyze his delusions is called a philosopher." -Ambrose Bierce
You know how it is when you start watching some TV show or reading an episodic site that's been going on for quite some time and you realize that you've missed a lot of crucial details and you have a hard time figuring out what's going on?

Me too.

Which is why I am now providing this little service for new readers of My Soap-Operatic Life. If you've got a limited amount of time on the Internet (I sympathize) or just can't read all the past entries, this is a monthly general summary on the events going on in my life. It's not going to be very specific, or link to each significant entry. If you want to find the day in which something happened, you'll just have to read the entries to find it.

March/April 1998:
* My spring break sucks.
* I have not heard from my somewhat-significant other, The Moron, for ages. I decide to send him an e-mail asking what's up and does he never want to speak to me again.
* Spring quarter of school starts.
* I make out with a creepy stranger, Magazine Man.
* My cousin Ron gets married to his third finacee, Laurie.
* From that point on, I flip out whenever I hear the word marriage mentioned (sorry, gotta check the archive for why).
* I turn twenty.
* I am trying to double major in English and design. While working on switching my registration, I discover that is incredibly difficult to do thanks to the anal design department's enormous amount of reqs.
* I eventually decide to individual major (make up my own combination of requirements junior year) and combine the two areas on my own.
* I am quite obsessed with various TV shows.

May 1998:
* My friends Demma and Anna discover this page. I still haven't heard the end of it.
* I notice that one of the guys I lust after resembles a jerky newspaper columnist at school (there's a photo with the column), and proceed to post and rant about it on one of my message boards. One smartass there reads this and decides to e-mail the writer of the column about it, and he posts on the board saying that wasn't him. I am thorougly embarrassed.
* I inadvertently (read the page for what that means) date a guy old enough to be my father (Juggler Man) This flips me out no end and reminds me that I really should take a self-defense class ASAP.
* I decide to go to a session summer school and sign up to take design media and art history.
* I FINALLY hear from The Moron- he calls me when I'm not home and says he'll call back. He doesn't, ever. I get horrendously pissed about it.
* I am still quite obsessed with the television.
* I find out Lisa is moving to New York.
* Mom and Dad refuse to let me meet some people off the Internet.
* I write a blisteringly rude letter to The Moron telling him that I never want to speak to him again. It gets a lot worse than that, actually. Naturally, he does not respond to this.

June 1998:
* I sign up for design drawing, an intro English class, and beginning poetry writing for next fall.
* Lisa and Elena and I have one last drinking party.
* I try to apply to a humor magazine being started at UCD. I get a "more in the fall" message back.
* I think about a lot of random stuff and review Web pages instead of studying for finals.
* My mom sees The Moron on the street- he looks as if he doesn't know how to act.
* I sign up to be a Student Orientation Coordinator (help people move into the dorms), mainly so I can leave home earlier.
* Spring quarter ends.
* My weeklong break between spring quarter and summer session is fun at first, but then my parents start to get on my nerves.

* I go to the NEW Marine World.

July 1998:
* I love summer school and my new roommates at first, but then start to get pissed at them (you'll have to read why).
* I meet Front Desk Guy and like him, but don't see him very much.
* I find out that my ex-roommate Sarah and her boyfriend have gotten married.
* Demma comes to visit me at school.
* My mom's cousin Linda comes to visit, and she kinda drives my parents nuts.

August 1998:
* Summer school ends, and Front Desk Guy waits until the last day to ask me out. I give him my info.
* Linda goes home, to my parents' relief.
* Various family members are feuding with each other- Mom and Aunt Susie, Auntie Dolores and Laurie.
* A week after I'm home, FDG finally calls me, suggests getting together when he's home before school starts.
* I rant a lot about various stuff.
* I find out that my parents are taking me to Hawaii!!!
* I get my materials dealing with being a SOC.
* My parents start to drive me buggy.
* I call FDG to let him know I'm going to Hawaii. He asks me out for Labor Day weekend (he'll be going home then- he lives 25 min. from me) and says he'll call midweek.
* Laurie and Ron no longer go to family events, such as my cousin Justin's birthday party.
* I get kinda nervous about dating somebody that I want to date again.

September 1998:
* I change Front Desk Guy's alias to Kiwini (it's Hawaiian, okay?).
* Kiwini does not call me back when he's supposed to, and I get extremely mad about it. He calls two days later canceling- he's too busy to go home and tells me to call him. I leave a message, but get no response. I assume this is a dump and get kinda pissed.
* My parents really start to drive me nuts.
* I feel extremely guilty for not calling a friend of mine all summer and try to make amends.
* I decide to drop poetry writing for a textiles class (intro to fashion industry) and also sign up for an English class on the Holocaust.
* I entered a few fashion design contests and did submissions to apply to advanced writing classes at school.
* I get annoyed by the bad behavior of people I know.
* I go to Hawaii for a week and move in to school early. The journal is on hiatus during this time due to my lack of Internet access.
* I see Kiwini in the DC my second day back at school- he doesn't see me- and I run away before he does.
* I met my new roommates. Two of them are very quiet, two of them are, well, kinda bimbo-y.
* Also met and developed a new lust- for one of my RA's, Jensen. At first it seems mutual, but then, well, it doesn't. In order to chase him, I do a 180 in personality and suddenly sign up to do everything in the dorms.
* I find out that Sarah's husband became abusive and psycho, and she moved back home. She plans to return for winter quarter.
* I attempt to get a job.
October 1998:
* I get into advanced writing class after all!
* My freshmen roommates seem nicer than I thought. But later on, they seem even jerkier than I thought.
* I pack my social life in with working for the school lit mag, taking classes in self-defense and hula dancing, finally getting onto the staff of Spotfans Unplugged, working on a haunted house, and becoming Little Ms. Dorm Doer on social committee.
* I do a lot of stupid crush crap.
* I don't get the job I wanted, and realize that I have no resume whatsoever, thus fucking me up for getting any job other than McDonald's.
* I start to really relate to the TV show Felicity.
* The crush on the RA gets much worse. "A bad case of lusting you", maybe? I realize that we have completely opposite personalities. However, I later start suspecting that it is mutual, as I see him checking me out several times.
* Get to know Kayda more- she's got a complicated love life like the rest of us. She's winning the award so far for Most Liked Roommate.
* I get quite addicted to ICQ.
* I feel quite crappy and depressed a lot.
* I hate my drawing class.
* The freshmen and I have a Bathroom War.
* One of the Spotfans staff and I start a bet as to whether or not I'll get a boyfriend by the end of the year.
* Nobody ever shows up for dorm activities, I get pissed off because I don't get to hang around the RA.
* Around Halloween, I develop a lust for a guy I'll never see again, and a neighbor develops a thing for me unexpectedly.
November 1998:
* Sarah gets back together with Hardeep, and they come over to visit. To make a LONG story short for y'all, he started beating on her in my living room and I had to call the cops. She got back together with him like the next day. Currently she is debating whether or not to leave him (claiming financial reasons a lot), even though he doesn't want her to talk to certain people or go anywhere he doesn't know about . . . They also moved to down the street from me.
* Jensen is at first very helpful to me about the Sarah situation (go back and read why he's involved), but later rudely bails on me when I make an appointment to talk to him. I get over that one REAL fast, haven't seen him around since.
* I'm taking a textile class, an English and a science next quarter.
* I come home one day to find SATAN and 666 written on my bedroom door, think the bimbos did it and get pissed off . . . turns out one of their boyfriends (the jerky one) did it. I debate moving out.
* I announce to the Spotfans crowd that Victor and I have a bet going as to whether or not I will get a boyfriend this year. Fat chance.
* I get into posting on the ucd.life newsgroup in a major way, which prompts lots of controversy over whether or not certain people are interested in me or not. Both claim not to be . . . then one (Matt) starts e-mailing me a lot, and the other (Remington) asks me out! I am advised that he's a slut, but a nice slut and to watch myself . . . I try. To my surprise, I like him. The date goes well, then he leaves the state.
* From then on, things are pretty eventful on the newsgroup for me, as Matt and Remington get into some sort of fight on irc, people talk about me behind my back, I get quite confused about everything.
* From more reading of the newsgroup, I deduce that Remington doesn't think that I like him back. Uh, oops. I send him an e-mail indicating that's the opposite of reality . . . however, he reads his e-mail while drunk, deletes mine, then forgets what it said!!!! I get quite pissed about this, but resend it anyway. And I still sit in suspense! Aaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!
