Born Nicholas Adam Marshall, Nick lived in England
on one of his grandfather's properties until he was eight years old. His family then moved to Nevada and stayed for several years
before settling near Boise in 1863. Nick has a strange accent--a combination of English, French, and American. He enjoys riding his
horse, Sherman, a chestnut brown Thoroughbred stallion. Nick raised Sherman almost since the horse's birth, when he was given the
horse for his fifteenth birthday. Nick has a deep voice. He's tall, muscular, and handsome. He has dark brown hair and nearly black
eyes. He's quiet and well educated, though he studied at home. He raises and trains Thoroughbreds at Belleterre. He enjoys the outdoors: fishing, riding, hunting, and trapping are his favorite activities. He also
enjoys playing with his nieces and nephews. He married Tess in late August 1875 and built her a house. Nick helped Stuart throughout her troubles, but first thought that she was pursuing a
relationship with Tess before he discovered that Stuart was not a man. When , an old friend of his, returned to town, Nick
refused to see that she wasn't as good as she appeared to be. He was quite angry when he finally discovered the truth. Nick helped Tess deliver their son, Andrew, in the middle of snow storm. When Gustavo Alvarado came seeking Stuart,
claiming he was a distant relative, Nick helped him and the two eventually found her in Arizona.
