Adam Millard Marshall
Adam Marshall was born the illegitimate son of Nellie Millard, then nineteen, and Lord Richard Marshall, then
thirty-seven. Richard soon legitimized his son and took over his upbringing. Adam, being the youngest of Richard's known children,
grew up quiet and reserved. Adam is of average height and appearance, with brown hair and eyes. He always dresses respectably in
suits.
Camilla Marshall
Lady Camilla Marshall is the second-youngest daughter of the Duke of Stancliff. She is mature and outgoing
for her age, eager to grow up. She has reddish-blond hair and blue eyes.
Charles Marshall, Duke of Stancliff
Charles Marshall, Duke of Stancliff, is John Henry's oldest brother. He became duke on the
death of his father, when he was thirty-one. He suits the title well. He is a loving family man and not at all disappointed that he was
unable to produce a male heir. His six daughters are his greatest joy. He and John Henry are close friends and closely resemble each
other, though Charles shows less age. Charles is a bit stuffy, but can easily be persuaded by his daughters and nieces.
Frederick "Freddie" Emory Marshall
Freddie is the illegitimate son of Lady Maud Emory and Lord Richard Marshall, Freddie was raised mainly
under his mother's loving influence, though he feels great love and loyalty to his father. Freddie is Richard's oldest known child, born
when Richard was twenty-seven. He is more handsome than his younger brother, Adam, with dark red hair,
deep brown eyes, and an all-round aristocratic appearance. He is always impeccably dressed. When he was twenty-two, he fell in love
and had an affair with Sally Mason. They planned to marry even before the discovery of her pregnancy, but
Richard managed to convince Sally that Freddie would have a better chance of becoming duke without her. He never met his son. In
mid-December 1875, after they were reunited, Sally and Freddie married.
Laura Marshall
Laura Marshall is the Duke's fourth daughter. She is sweet and demure, the perfect young lady. She enjoys
sewing and embroidery, poetry, the piano, and flower arranging. Like most of her other sisters, she has reddish-blond hair and blue
eyes.
Margaret "Maggie" Marshall Waverley, Viscountess Waverley
Maggie is the first born child of the Duke of Stancliff and the only married one. She is set to become the
Countess of Seabrook on the death of her father-in-law. She and her husband delayed their trip to Liberty Creek for Christopher and Lydia's second wedding ceremony to recover from the birth of
her first child, Peter, who inherited the ancestral title "Baron Waverley" at birth. Maggie, unlike most of her other
sisters, resembles her father with dark hair and eyes. She and Libbie are best friends, and she is also close
to Victoria.
Richard Marshall
Lord Richard Marshall, John Henry's older brother, is the heir presumptive to the Duke of
Stancliff. A drinker and a womanizer when he was younger, he has since settled down. He never married, but fathered at least three
children, Freddie, Belinda, and Adam. He has a strong-will and
holds considerable control over his children. He dislikes their respective mothers. Richard was exceedinly jealous of his brothers, Charles because he was the firstborn and John Henry because he was better loved by their parents, was more
successful, and managed to marry and produce several heirs. After spending several months at Belleterre, however, he changed. He
realized he wanted more than what he had. He fell in love with a hot-tempered Scottish maid at Belleterre, Flora, married her, and settled in Australia with her, leaving Freddie in charge of all his affairs in England,
including his two under-age children. He also gave up his inheritance. He is of average height with a large, slightly overweight build.
He has a mustache and a beard, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He took in Olivia and her children when
she needed to get away.
Samantha Marshall
Samantha is the third daughter of the Duke. She resembles her sister Maggie with dark hair
and eyes, but is quite dull. She has only a passing skill with music, and is not much interested in literature or drama. She is often
referred to as Sam.
Stuart MacKenzie
Stuart is a troubled young woman. Passing herself off as a man since she was sixteen when her father died and their ranch was lost,
Stuart went from job to job. She is best skilled with horses, but is competant in all ranching activities. A superb markswoman, Grace is her only competition. After nearly helping to destroy Tess and Nick's marriage, she shared a one
night stand with Joe, one for which she blames herself as she had the opportunity to stop it. Stuart has Scottish, Apache, and Spanish
ancestry. She has short, curly brown hair, dark eyes and very smooth facial features. She is short and slender with an almost
non-existent figure. Once she admitted to herself that she would have Joe's child, she left Liberty Creek to spend the remainder of her
pregnancy with Georgie and Gabe. Stuart had a healthy baby some
time early and had her baptized, in a Catholic ceremony, Carolina Theresa Georgina after her mother and her two dear friends. After
some soul-searching, she found the strength to give the baby up... to Olivia. She then left town and
disappeared, but when a distant relative, Gustavo Alvarado, came looking for her, Nick
decided to help. She was found in a small, Arizona town—the successful, female owner and operator of a popular saloon. Gustavo,
though, was discovered to be her brother-in-law.
