Now, we don't want to be negative. We opened CACSADE so we could let you tell us and everybody else what pisses you off. But there's a converse side to that - we're not going to be able to make the world a better place until we know what people actually like. So for this page we want you to tell us (using the rant form) about things or people who have exhibited substantial amounts of Common Sense or Decency. And you can let them know they're being recognised for their great deeds. You can even write to let us know if you yourself did something particularly Common Sensical or Decent. This page will act as a light antidote to the anger of the other pages.
Now this may be a damning sign of the state of the world, but we so far have only four submissions for this page. But we reckon it's because, for some strange reason in human nature, it's much harder to remember nice things than bad things. At least we hope so.
Baby You Can't Drive Your Car
From: Paul the Foon in Brisbane, Australia
In a gesture of hopefully uncharacteristic sychophantism, I'd like to nominate my girlfriend Steph, as someone who's shown uncommon decency. I've lost the use of my car recently, and she has picked me up and driven me around for a week now without
complaint.
On one night I'd left my house keys and wallet in a hall that a group I'm in had just used, and the owner of the keys lived half an hour's drive across town. At 10PM on a Sunday night she drove me across town and back, with no complaint or even a hint of sarcasm, all to get me home safe and sound.
I think that's pretty deserving of reward. The flowers are in transit... :-)
Hello Again!
From: Dan in The Vast Virtual World of MC and other places
Shopgirls who remember you, and by the time you get to the front
of the queue they've already produced the thing you were going to
ask for and have it waiting for you with a nice smile.
Same for similarly attentive waitresses. It's amazing how such
a small thing can make you feel good about the world for hours.
A Fair Cop
From: Paul in Pennsylvania, USA
I'd actually like to nominate a cop for doing something that was amazingly *nice*. It doesn't happen too often.
I was driving through a local town at about 45 mph, along a rather winding road. I'm not too far away when a county police officer pulls out. I slammed on the brakes and laid on the horn (mistake).
I came to a stop just feet from the cop's car. He gave me a funny look, then pulled around me and headed off. I restarted the car (by this time it had stalled) and went along my merry way, muttering under my breath about the fucking halfwit.
Then the lights came on behind me. I pulled over, and there, in the rear-view mirror, was THE SAME COP. He walks up to my window and...
PROCEEDS TO APOLOGIZE! He told me that he hadn't seen me, but that I handled the situation perfectly, and how he was sorry to have nearly caused an accident!
Most people would nominate this guy as an asshole, but I like to think that he made an honest mistake and was decent enough to apologize for it! Right on!
[Editor's Comment] I was touched by this one. Not only was the cop decent, honest, and Man enough to admit that he'd made a mistake, but Paul here was also decent enough to take him at his word and accept his apology gracefully. Nice one you both.
Cheers!

One of the pleasures in life:
To all the bar keeps who don't ask "What'll it be?" but rather ask "How much do you want?" I raise my glass. Or if I'm with friends and feeling generous, I raise a pitcher!
