We all knew that the day would come, that it would finally come to an end after 10 glorious years on the air. It was announced on Wednesday that Mystery Science Theater 3000's tenth season would be its last in a press release from Best Brains, Inc. I found it out after visiting Satellite News on Wednesday night, and it left me a bit sad. Yet at the same time, I felt that this would be the best time for the show to end its run.
I'm sure other MSTies feel the same way about this, and I'm sure a few are sad, maybe even angry. I know some are going to start up a whole bunch of rumors that the Sci-Fi Channel forced Best Brains into this decision. However, most would probably agree that the show is leaving after what promises to be its best season since season five. Season ten will feature guest appearances from Joel Hodgson (the original man in space and the show's creator) and Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) as well as some really crazy movies. Shakespeare will be taken on, as well as other contemporary films that stray from the sci-fi genre.
I'm deeply saddened by this event, but I know as well as anyone that only a few shows can go as long as this one did. "Seifield" only went 7, "Highlander" went 6, and other "great" shows aren't going to make it either. MST3K was just the right kind of show at the right time. It was creative, it was different, and it was consistently funny. We'll all miss it, but most of us have many of the shows on tape right now. We'll always have our MST3K when we need it.
I would like to say thank you to Best Brains for producing such a funny show. It will not be forgotten soon. Thank you for making us laugh at love once again.
I don't know what it is with me lately. I've been waking up in the morning and just wishing I could back to sleep and not face the world. I don't hate my life or anything about it. I just don't want to face things. I don't want to go to that school in the morning. I don't want to see people I generally do not enjoy being around or listening too. I don't want to face teachers who claim to care, but who really would rather you just shut up and do your work. I just don't want to go outside to a world that doesn't always seem to appreciate me or what I try to do.
I'm not a depressive, so that's not usually an issue with me. I'm just not much of a people person with a few exceptions. Those exceptions being people I know fairly well and that I trust for the most part. Overall though, I have a distaste for people and this world. Some of the things that go on just make me wish that things would just rewind so that we could start over. I'm sick of how commercial this world has become. Hell, even I've succombed to it with advertisements on my pages. Everybody's vying for your attention, then they want to get with you. I don't get this world or the things that go on in it sometimes. I wonder just how things came to be that we have people who don't give two shits about their fellow person.
I'm just fed up with all this horseshit we see in the world.
People keep asking me where I want to live when I'm older. Apartment or house? City or suburb, or in the country? With or without someone? Since you all seem to be trying to get something out of me, let me sum it up with just one word: quiet. Yes, quiet. I want to live where it will be quiet. I don't care if I have to drive 45-60 minutes to go to work. I want to live where it's nice and quiet, where I can live, with or without a companion, without worrying about noise. That's why I love my grandfather's tree farm in Ashtabula County. It's quiet out there with little to distract you. When you go to sleep, you don't have to worry about airplanes landing nearby or hear the cars on a local highway. You can go for a walk in the woods, or look up at the stars at night.
If you ever get the chance, compare how many stars you can see in an area near a city with an area in the country, away from all the lights. You can see a whole lot more stars. It's sounds old-fashioned to most (then again, I am old-fashioned in most ways) but I love it. It's beautiful out there. Train your dog and you can let him run around for all he's worth. You may have one or two neighbors within a five-mile radius, giving you plenty of room to mess around with. Most importantly though, it's quiet and beautiful. I used to go and take walks on the dirt road out there at night and just look up. I was never scared of being by myself out there because I knew that it was rural, and very few people are out there, leaving the chance of someone attacking you very slim. Besides, I'm very comfortable with the night time.
I don't hate the suburbs, or even the city. I just don't like all the noise and all the lights. I want to be able to play music as loud as I want without having to worry about a neighbor calling the cops. I can shoot a gun out there without worrying about someone calling the cops about it. I'm not going to be a farmer or anything, I would just live out there for the sake of living there. It probably won't happen for a long while, but that's okay.
What's with this Eminen character? I don't quite understand what his message is yet, then again "Slim Shady" doesn't quite give you a clear message. That is, if you discount the fact that he's messed in the head. It just strikes me as funny that Dr. Dre would even consider signing him to Aftermath Records, then again, I have to commend Dre for the same thing. I'm not too giddy about Eminen himself, but the fact that a white rapper is getting such publicity has to be good for race relations. It could open up the doors for others with some talent, then again, it could open up the door for blacks to start crying foul. We'll see what happens.
Which reminds me, I finally got my Master P cd "Ghetto D" back. I had forgotten how much I had missed that cd and how good it was. I listened to it on my way home and realized it was even better than I had thought. I found myself wondering why I had gone so long without listening to it. I think it's going to be in my cd player for a few days now.
I also listened to Mr. Serv-On's cd while I was at the mall earlier. I'm sorry if anyone actually likes it, but I found it just plain, uh, bad. Some songs may actually have been good, but the first few got on my nerves and I was forced to leave the store. Along the way, some middle-school girls asked me for a cigarette. Apparently they think that all guys smoke, but I'll let you be the judge based on these excerpts:
GIRL 1: Hey, do you have a cigarette (using the sweetest voice that she could)?
ME: Uh, no. I don't smoke.
GIRL 2: Are you serious. Don't most guys smoke?
ME (getting irritated): Actually, you'd be surprised. A lot of us actually want to avoid cancer when we get older.
GIRL 1: Sorry we asked. Bye.
They started to mutter to each other about how I was a loser because I didn't smoke. Ha! Hope their hospital bills aren't too high.
I used to smoke, when I was around 14 or 15. It was one of those "he's doing it so I'm going to do it because I'll look cool" kind of deals. After about a year of uninspired smoking, I gave it up for obvious reasons. I just found it to be annoying and sickening. I never really became addicted to nicotine like all my friends, and I eventually saw it as rather unattractive. Besides, the thought of my lungs turning black gave me an uneasy feeling.
That's just another reason why I'm at odds with a lot of my peers. I cannot begin to understand why someone would do things such as smoke, do drugs, or get drunk regularly. I just don't understand it at all. Then again, I grew up seeing what happens as a result of all of that stuff while many didn't, and if they did, it had adverse affects on them. Instead of shying away from those things, they wound up doing that stuff themselves. I don't always understand some people and their decisions. Sure, it's fun now to get drunk, get high, and smoke cigarettes, but it will catch up with you.
Just ask my dad, who just got out of jail after 25 days. It was his fifth visit to jail, but it probably isn't his last. He smokes, drinks, and does drugs. I'm not saying everyone will wind up that way, but many will. Some will wind up like my uncle, who died a couple years ago from conditions related to his smoking and drinking.
Give that shit up while you can. You may never get a second chance.
Can someone please explain to me why everyone likes to talk about Pamela Anderson (Lee?) so much. Even VH-1 got into the act, but that was because they were documenting Motley Crue, Tommy Lee's band. I just find it funny that so many members of the media can focus on Miss Boobfest as much as they do. At least once a day I hear about her or something involving her and I just start laughing out loud.
I bet that someone at each news network has a copy of that tape too. How about that for controversy?
How about the "Grammy Awards" that were on the other night? If you ask me, the Grammy's are a farce. Apparently they still don't get how popular hip-hop and R&B are as many of the awards for those categories were held off-camera. That just pisses me off. The Grammy's have always been about being squeaky-clean, which is fine, but they need to recognize hip-hop as a major force in music. Just look at the top 10 albums from week to week. At any given point, half of them (especially in the rap-friendly Cleveland area) are rap albums. One section for Teens named Mystikal as the artist of the year.
Then again, rap has always been pushed towards the back by most groups, whether it be television, magazines, or anything else. The controversial aspects are mostly to blame, conservatism is the other factor. It's really understandable in one way, yet it's absurd in another way. Rappers such as Master P and Scarface, to name two, are shunned regularly even though they're selling millions of records.
The Grammy's in my mind are going to have to do some catching up to do. Rap is fast becoming one of the hottest music genres in the country while rock and pop rock are falling on their faces with some exceptions. Let's just hope that the Grammy's take a better look at the situation and make amends for the next ceremony.
