IQUITOS

There is no other place in the world like Iquitos, it is a place that stands out in the world. It is an island surrounded by beautiful rivers, the Amazon being the most gorgeous. It is a place that has the modern characteristics of a city, but minutes away there is a whole other uncivilized way of life. It is this contrast that makes iquitos hold a unike place in the world. I spent 10 years of my life there and since i live in the states now I visit every summer, I can't live without iquitos. If anyone enjoys culture, beauty and traveling, iquitos is the place to go, I believe iquitos has a charm no other city has.

Near the city of Iquitos, the great river Ucayali join those of the Marañon, to form the powerful Amazon, the world's largest river which flows more than 3,500 km through the jungle to the Atlantic Ocean. You can travel to the villages of the Yagua and Bora by Speed boat, there are lodges to accommodate for the guests. You can also experience the fascinating explorations of many islands of the Amazon or fish in the rivers and lakes. The most common way of traveling around the Amazon is taking a 4-day river cruise to the Brazilian border (a 7-day round trip). The city of Iquitos offers a fascinating and fun night life, nightclubs in iquitos are very popular and sociable. You can also savor typical food made from the local paiche fish, heart of palm, and tasteful exotic fruits.

The boulevard is one of the most popular places in iquitos, it's located in the border of the Amazon river. There tourists from many places and the people that inhabit Iquitos can be seen there strolling around. There is a couple restaurants at the left side, and around the courner at night the club Jaimito opens at 9 pm. In August for a couple weeks, it's a tradition in Iquitos to have LA FERIA DE LOS LIBROS, which is a fair of different types of suveniers, books, medecine, jewlery and craft. Most of the articles in sale are native from Iquitos and a lot of the suveniers contain the Iquitos logo for lasting memories. In the boulevard there is always a clown to make you laugh, really!

The Flowers of Iquitos are beautiful and charming, they help create the personality of the city. This yellow flower is called Utricularia Fiolosa.

Iquitos has great exotic beauty to show off, the trees, the flowers, the hospitality and of course its women... hehehe!!! =)

This picture is in the way to see the Bora tribe, i was sitting at the edge of the speed_boat, it's a lot of fun and exciting.

This is the friendship_dance, the Boras invited us to dance it with them, this is one of their ways of making us feel welcomed.

This is the chief of the Bora tribe, he was given this responsability at an early age because of the tragic death of his father. The two brown instruments between him, my sister and I are used to communicate with a hard stick.
