USS Saratoga

USS Saratoga CV-60

I was stationed aboard Saratoga from September 83 to October 86, in the Operations Department, OP (Photo) Division.  My primary job was the work center supervisor for the Intelligence Center photo lab, where we handled all aerial reconnaisance tasking.  Additionally, I had assigments as the photo lab Leading Petty Officer, and Flight Deck Photographer.   Saratoga was commissioned on April 14th, 1956 and was homeported at the Naval Station Mayport, Florida for her entire service life.  Except for one cruise to Vietnam in 1972, she made all of her deployments to the Mediterranian Sea. Super Sara's 1985-86 cruise took her from Mayport to many ports in the Med, and into the Indian Ocean, as well as a trip to Singapore.  Saratoga was instrumental in the operation to capture the terrorists that hijacked the ocean liner Achille Lauro, and was the first American warship to visit Yugoslavia since the end of WW2.  I hope you enjoy the photos in this gallery.
