Stamford seniors played their second championship game in a scorching Gaelic Park on Sunday. Stamford emerged the victors by a margin of 6 points - this could have been 16 points if the kicking boots had been on!!! Stamford V Monaghan
Stamford 3-11 Monaghan 1-7
Stamford in their first of 3 games in a row were by no means strong in the
opening ten minutes of this game. Trailing by 2 points Stamford got their
first score through Spike Martin. Monanaghan responded with an attack on
goal, but a great save by James Reilly soon stopped their gallop. Some fine
points by Kerrymen, Paul Galvin and Ronan O'Connor brought the sides level.
A big kick out by the Stamford goalkeeper was fielded by Keith Hennessy, fed to
Paul Galvin who netted it and put Stamford in the lead. The score Stamford
1-4 Monanaghan 0-3. Another point by Dave Phelan followed. A mistake in
the Stamford defense allowed Monanghan to pull a goal back. Half time score
Stamford 1-5 Monaghan 1-3. After the break following some good words of wisdom from
Donny, Tommy and Noel, Stamford took a firm grip of the game. Pat Coyne and
Keith Hennessy operating well at Midfield soon turned the game around. A
switch in the Monanghan attack made Pay Coyne switch back to his main
position of full back. Stamfords second goal came form a long ball out of
defense by Mark Cummerford to Ronan O' Connor who made no mistake in beating
the Monanghan Goalkeeper. Monanghan responded with points from Martin Slowey
and Bonnie Duffy. But it just was not Monanghan's day. A third goal by the
bull himself, Keith Hennessy sealed it for Stamford, following some great
work by Justin O'Halloran. Points from Spike, Dave Phelan, Keith Hennessy,
Justin O'Halloran, Adrian Carney closed the door on Monanghan.

Stamford V Tyrone Stamford 3-17 Tyrone 2-07
Stamford totally controlled all aspects of this game from start to finish - the only damper being that the side they beat were lacking about 6-7 regular players on the day. The first half saw Stamford scoring 10 points while Tyrone managed a goal. The second half was more of the same and a late penalty by Gerry Flanagan gave the scoreline a look of respectability. Brian Stynes, Collie Moran, Ronan O'Connor and Adrian Kearney did as they pleased for Stamford.
Stamford were as follows:
James McAlary, Phil Wickham, Pat Coyne, Mark Commerford, Jason Williams, Richie Purcell, Ronan O'Connor, Brian Stynes (0-3), Keith Hennessy, Collie Moran (2-3), Paul Galvin (0-1), Justin O'Halloran, Declan Curtin (0-1), Ronan O'Connor (1-4), Adrian Kearney (0-4). Subs: Enda Cox, Dave Williams, Spike Martin (0-1).
Scores for Stamford came from:

Stamford's bid for the Senior 'A' Chmpionship ended on Sunday as Stamford lost out to Rockland in a tightly fought battle. However the last minute of the first half saw Paul Galvin score for Stamford to give the Connecticut side a 4 point lead at the half.
