Missions-
My View on
Taiki and Yaten
Ok, here is the deal. As all of you know, the starlights became men (3 lights) in order to go "undercover" and look for their princess. This invariably leads to some run-ins with sailor moon and the gang.. both in and out of senshi form. Now the three lights are supposed to focus just on the mission (as my last page showed blah, Seiya didn't!). However, they all seemed to have their own ways. Seiya obviously put himself into Usagi's light, and got caught. Taiki and Yaten, I think, were a different story. They both seemed to be more centralized (in other words focused on finding their princess). Yet, their characters and personalities lead me to say there is a little more than that.

Taiki- Some write him off as having little of a personality, seeing him much like a bookworm. However, I cannot see tem as more wrong. I find him to be the most doubtful, and mysterious of the three. He is very competitive (as show with his duel with Ami). Not to mention he is studious and wise... and poetic (like when he read them Blake). His side was shown when he laughed. Yaten and Seiya commented saying it had been a long while since they’d seen him that way. He reminded me of a hermit... so bent on his mission he'd forgotten to live. Strange, but likely. People get obsessed with things all the time. For instance, work. People bury themselves into work, thinking eventually the rewards will make their loved ones happy... in the end it brings solitude. Anyway, Taiki really comes around when his doubts come over him. He ends up being dragged to a child’s room on her deathbed. He encourages her, and (due to a picture she drew of their princess) is encouraged. This is where, I believe, Taiki truly realizes the value of human life..... which leads to the realization there is more out there than their princess.

Yaten- Much like Taiki Yaten is blown off as a jerk, and a pompous brat. I agree, at times Yaten seems to be a rude jerk (like when he throws those letters away). Yet, Luna saw the soft side of Yaten. Much like Taiki he allows himself to be engulfed in finding the princess. He, at first, sees humans as a waste of time. Like taiki he has ot learn to place a value on life (pretty much shown when the inner senshi die for them and she flips). However, you have to step back and maybe yo'll see what I mean. He has a lot of emotion (although that’s hard to figure out). He tells everything to a cat.... he has difficulty trusting. Not to mention he doesn't have any real "special" abilities (ie. Seyis does sports, Taiki does books and poems). He is confused, and doesn't really have an outlet for his anger. I feel the most common bond to him. He's normal... and many argue him to be the cutest (hey, I'm still the Seiya addict, or hadn't you noticed?). Yet, Yaten comes through in two other ways. 1. With his caring for Seiya. They are a close knit group, are they not? (note, this also applies to Taiki). He cares so much about his comrade that he gets extremely bent when he is hurt and urges Seiya to let go of her. 2. The very end. When The girls lay their lives down "for important people" Yaten has the most serious reaction to them all. He has a heart, such a big one he is mean and hateful to try to hide it!

Also- I'll note on the gender issue here. The Starlights are... female... however that is only 1/2 the story. I've read many many many articles on this subject and as far as the TV show goes I believe the theory of ..."as the starlights- women….. as the three lights?-- men". Yep. In the manga they are 100% female but in the TV version they are male and female. (Talk about weird huh?) They, since being from another planet, were originally female, but as upon "landing" on earth changed into males (yes, with everything that goes with, or without, it!). That's my story... and I'm sticking to it. A ton of controversy is placed over this, but I feel the most supported explanation is this one. The TV show stated that their princess asked them hwy they chose this form-- she was surprised to see them as males. Makes sense. Also- Seiya expresses his feelings to Usagi (very sweet especially when he kisses the tears from her eye) he says that "Seiya's time is short". This suggests that he will almost "shed" his male form and go back to being just a starlight, not on of the three lights. *takes a deep breath* Now that that's out of the way... please continue on!
