In 1993, ABS-CBN
founded the RoadRunner Post Production Network to
facilitate its growing post production special effects
needs for both television and movies.
In 1999, its animation department
became an independent company, and Starmation -- The ABS-BCN
Animation Studio was born.
The company, as its first
offering, embarks on the monumental feat of bringing the
Philippines' most beloved heroine, Darna, to life
in a full length animated film.
Supervising this milestone
as executive producer, director and chief animator is Starmation's
co-founder Nestor Castillo. Castillo worked
in the Warner Brothers Animation Studio
as assistant chief animator for the Batman Animated
Series and Batman: The Phantasm (a full-length
movie) for three years before co-founding the company with
Erwin Ong. Ong, who also worked for the
Warner Brothers Animation Studio, is popularly known as
the chief animator for Akima, the heroine in the animated
film Titan A.E.
Darna will feature
the voice of Judy Ann Santos as the title
role. The project is set to be finished on April 1,
2002.
Pre-production is already
on the way for Starmation's second film about the
Filipino princess, Urduja.
