Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Steve ran a busy schedule at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In addition to the Winston Cup event, Park also attempted to make the field for the Sam's Town 300 BGN event. Unfortunately he failed to make the field.

To find out all the information about this weekend's Busch Series event, come to steve-park.com to read my detailed reports.

Steve had another busy weekend as he ran in both Winston Cup and Busch Series. He successfully qualified the Whelen Chevrolet in the SunCom 200 with a ninth place starting position. He ran in the top-10 all race, but a flat tire late in the race dropped him back in the field. Steve still pulled out a 17th place finish after dropping to 28th.

Steve gave another outstanding performance in the Busch Series, helping the Whelen Motorsports / Ted Marsh Racing team continue in their growth. His early practice times were not outstanding, but in the final minutes of the afternoon practice on Thursday, Steve busted out a top-10 lap time.

I was fortunate enough to be at Texas Motor Speedway for the weekend, and it was a pleasure to watch Steve with his Busch team. Away from the pressures of Winston Cup, he was able to really get in and help. He worked on the car, helped get parts, and even dragged equipment from the hauler that was parked in the parking lot outside the garage area. My weekend got started off on the right foot when Steve pulled up in the #31 Whelen Chevrolet during practice, and waved hello as I stood outside the gates.

I also cannot speak highly enough of all the people I met associated with this team. From crew members, to PR associates, to corporate VPs. My Winston Cup credentials gave me the great fortune of interacting with the team Friday and Saturday. They also helped me reach new heights in my Nasar experiences. I got to tour my first hauler, and watch some of the activities from atop the Whelen hauler for the first time. I got to take a ride in the hauler when they pulled it into the garage area after Steve made the starting lineup. I may have been half drenched, but was never more thankful for rain then I was after spending Saturday afternoon with these guys. It even gave Steve and I time to catch up for the better part of an hour -- something our busy schedules don't allow much time for anymore.

Every Steve Park fan should make the effort to get out to the track and watch this team in action. For all those with the opportunity to have access to the infield -- please stop by and remind these guys what a fine job thier doing this season. Their success goes beyond that of a limited season team. Steve's talent combined with the hard work and dedication of the entire team has made this one team to contend with each week they participate.

As for Saturday's Albertson's 300, Steve started in 6th place after another solid qualifying run on Thursday. Before 25 laps were complete, rain began to fall on the track.  Nascar brought out the red flag and it poured rain until 2 pm. After a couple hours of drying, the race finally got back underway. Steve pitted before the green flag fell again, and fell back toward the back of the pack when another car leaving the pits made it impossible for him to get into his pit stall.

Steve ran strong and quickly moved forward through the field. Late in the race the team borrowed tires from another team, but when the put them on the car the lug nuts fell off. The slow pit stop put Steve back to the rear of the pack again, but he flew back though the pack in the final stages of the race. His 13th place finish was impressive, and once again with a few more laps there's no way to know just how high he could have climbed.

The Busch team takes some time off again before their next apperance. The Hardee's 250 from Richmond on May 5th is the next event on the schedule.
