144 Kangwando travelling to Chuncheon, Sorakson National Park and down the coast

I travelled around the northern province seeing the sights and hoping to come across some interesting project, but this time I was not lucky.

Tue - Chuncheon - didn't do much except eat food. Met Suran's parents and ate, got some info, went to the comic book library of Chang Sun Suran's best friend. Then we all went to eat Dak Kalvee (Chicken korean BBQ style) as it was her birthday and it's Suran's favourite and it's a speciality of Chuncheon.
We met Suran's other friend and the girls stayed up all night playing cards.
Wed - Gangchon country park with Suran, 3 hours cycling around saw waterfall etc. Helped in the comic book store while Chang Sun ran some errands. The shop opens 10-11pm a lot of hours for Chang Sun, she decided she was too tired to go to Soraksan.
.
Thu - ended up on a bus full of cosmetic ladies on their day out, We had planned to drive but Suran's friend said her company were having a bus trip there so we could come on the bus also.
unphoto imagine : the shy ajummas dancing in the aisle of the bus
the hostesses were there to get the shy ajummas hyped up at 10.am they were dancing in the aisle; they had only just begun the crates of beer and soju the boss had bought them, imagine them on the journey back !

We got off to transfer to Sorakson National Park there we found some of the hotels were deserted cos no people, but the entrance car park was jam packed with tour buses. Walked up a trail to a steep path to a cave in a massif, eventually getting away from the crowds.

The changing Autumn colour of the leaves and mountain scenary ..nice and Yuk ! hordes and hordes of people and souvenir shops and restaurants

Another example of the different thinking between the Orient and the West : Koreans go mad for the Autumn colours, no big deal to me.

Suran said it would be worth spending Friday walking some more, but when I woke up the rain was pouring down and as ever in Korea when it rains it will rain all day ;so we had to abandon our plan. Instead we went upto Sokcho and had a final lunch before Suran took the bus back to Seoul.

I had a look around the neighbourhood made up of North Korean refugees and took the strange self propelled ferry to the city centre , had a quick look around the ferry terminal to Russia etc and took the bus to Kangnung and to Tonghae. Tonghae was another boring city so I stayed in a Minbak nearby.
