Cooking and Recipes: Here's a nice and simple page of food information and recipes compiled by MIT economics graduate and gourmet William Chuang.
Those who love to cook all kinds of dishes will find much to please them here. Classifications include 'Pastries and Bread Recipes', 'Chinese and Japanese Recipes', 'Cajun and Creole Recipes', 'Indian Recipes', 'Ancient Roman Recipes' and 'Medieval Recipes'.
There's a 'Food FAQ' link that provides info on such things as weights, measures and food terms/names and and a section of links to recipe archives on the Web.
There're no pictures so downloads are fast, though it'd be great if you could see what the dishes look like.
Diabetic-Lifestyle Online Magazine: Here's a site that should interest diabetics and those who help care for them.
Sponsored by Diabetes Digest, the free diabetes magazine, this home page offers "informative and practical ways to deal with living with diabetes and its complications, as well as delicious recipes at no cost".
There're lots of enlightening articles on diabetes-related matters and updates on researches into the subject.
The 'Cooking Tips' section offers useful information on using spices, herbs and emergency substitutions.
The links to such features as 'What's Hot', 'Travel', 'Just for Kids', 'Burning Calories' and 'Oral Meds' are fact-loaded as well.
You can sign the guest book to receive a free monthly newsletter but chances are, you're also going to get a lot of junk mail trying to sell you all kinds of stuff.
Lives, the Biography Resource: While it's not exactly exhaustive, definitive or authoritative, this web portal that offers "links to thousands of biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, diaries, letters, narratives, oral histories and more" should be useful to those looking for information on the world's famous people, especially historical figures.
The biography listings are arranged in an alphatebical order, with links on the main page.
Then there's the 'Special Collections' section which features "topics in biography" such as 'African Americans', 'Canadians' and 'Holocaust Survivors and Rescuers'.
The 'Birthday' section, which provides links to the bios of the personalities featured, is another neat idea.
The content may be somewhat ethnocentric -- only a fool would believe that Americans are the world's most intelligent people -- but at least Kenneth P. Lanxner, the man behind the whole venture, seems to concede that the site has its inadequacies.
In any case, if you think more Asian personalities deserve to be listed, just click on the "suggest a biography" link.
1000 Tips 4 Trips: Anyone who travels regularly, and even those taking their first big trip abroad, will find plenty of useful suggestions here on how to make their journey a hassle-free experience.
Most of the tips here are submitted by travellers from all over the world so they're based on real-world experience.
There are 13 main categories including 'Pre-Travel Planning', 'What to Pack', 'Just for Men', 'Just for Women', 'Travelling with Children' and 'Tips for the Disabled Traveller'.
And you can find more specific travel advice under 'Regional Tips', 'While You Travel', 'Tips for Travel Operators' and 'Miscellaneous Links'.
There's also a link to XpertSite.com (www.xpertsite.com) where you can seek advice or ask questions on travel-related topics.
Access to the home page and the links is fast because graphics are kept to a minimum.
Scarlet Teen: Despite all the hoopla about the importance of sex education for young people here, we still have a long way to go in dealing with the subject without making sex seem like a deadly disease.
But the Internet, which abounds with X-rated sites that depict sex as a series of freak acts, is not going to give curious teenagers the kind of realistic picture they need.
So you have to be thankful for a site like this which not only addresses the subject head-on but also offers teenagers, and even adults who don't know much, a chance to ask questions on things related to sex that they're not sure about.
The site, part of the Sex Education Web Circle, lays out the information or the links to it in a direct and unflinching manner.
Click on 'Articles' and you will find such elucidating pieces as 'A Simple Condom Primer', 'Springtime in My Trousers' and 'The STD Spree: Your Sexual Health' in the 'Boyfriend' section. And the 'Pink Slip' and 'Ask Miz Scarlet' sections offer girls advice on a wide variety of sexual topics including virginity, douching and responsible sex.
There's a useful page of links, and in case parents want to get in on the discussion, there's a link especially for them.
It's all intelligently and admirably handled so anyone who finds the content objectionable probably has a serious problem.
The World Wide Online Meditation Center: The stress of the mad rush that we call life may make us desperate for some inner peace.
And one of the best ways to achieve inner peace is through meditation.
This site by meditation specialist Jim Malloy gives you just the introduction you need, and then helps you take the first few steps into bringing calm to your mind.
Besides providing general guidelines, Malloy debunks misconceptions about meditation and basically helps you get a clear grasp on the subject.
The home page has a lot of useful links, including 'Inner Light Meditation', 'Relaxation Meditation', 'Energy Healing Meditation', 'Glossary & FAQs' and 'Questions & Answers'. And it's neatly designed, though some might find the look somewhat uncool.
