As per usual, the Saturday night in this part of town at such a popular venue was packed out. A queue formed from the off and continued into the night thanks to the prospect of such top talent as The Unabombers and Groove Armada. Ross Clarke’s ‘Revolver’ event utilises the club to its full potential, evenly distributing a herd of club-goers into 3 floors in a manner so succesful his old Physics teacher would have been proud. The bottom floor accommodates Manchester’s Unabombers who bring their future funk discotek to a venue that is reminiscent, in terms of atmosphere and size, to The Road House their original home in Manchester. In the main area on the ground floor, the ever popular Groove Armada are djing, and upstairs Clarke has let loose the punters on the decks for the infamous 6 Foot Stereo. To begin with, the organiser himself sets the tone for the evening by djing a great warm up set on the Ground floor. Amongst other hip hop tunes he mixes De La Souls 'No Good' into Outkasts current hit 'Ms Jackson', and finds room to spare in order to squeeze in other delights, of a Latin and house nature. As the night progresses, the Unabombers entice more and more people downstairs with their usual array of music covering many bases, from older 70s style deep house, to breakbeat tracks, to instrumental hip hop, Afrobeat and beyond, mixed together in a progressively intriguing manner. |
