Everything that does not fit in the other pages (or don't want to include in them) are included here for your enjoyment. Spirited Away is the first Ghibli movie to actually receive worldwide attention, so rest assured there wil be enough candy for you.
Panoramic Scenes
The movie incorporates a few scenes that are scrolled either up/down or left/right. These scenes are too big to be placed in the gallery, so I have put them here instead.
- Tunnel Entrance - This is where they came across the entrance to the spirit world. The sign above says Yuya, literally, bath house.
- Lobby - Before emerging into the spirit world, the Ogino family stopped by what seems to be a lobby or waiting area.
- The Spirit World - It was not apparent to them then, but this wide field is no "Amusement park" as Mr Ogino put it. At night, water fills the lower lands to form a river.
- The Exit - Every tunnel has two ends. This happens to be the exit, or one of the exits. This is also where Mr Ogino mentioned about amusement parks.
- Alleyways - Mr Ogino led his family through the alleyways in search of food. And proves that following your nose isn't always a good idea.
- Restaurant - Wonder why, for a kitchen, not a spot of blood or entrail can be seen? As long as it keeps your eyes of the food, unless you want to turn into a pig.
- The Aburaya - As seen by Chihiro under the signpost. Actually, what is shown here is barely half of the entire size of the true building, which stretches far below the bridge.
Nitpicks
A collection of nitpicks regarding the movie, from trivia to mistakes to hidden agendas. Done mostly by people with noting better to do but watch the movie over and over again.
- One of the original ideas was entitled "Lin the Chimney Painter", and the main character was designed very similar to Chihiro.
- One of the source of reference for the movie was a book entitled Kiri no Mukou no Fushigi na Machi, meaning "The mysterious town beyond the fog".
- Kamajii's belongings are all contained in the cabinet from which he drew the train tickets from, and are all he has, plus a few odd items that don't fit inside placed beside it.
- The huge empty space in Yubaaba's office is actually Bou's play area.
- Worker's tag board - Beside it are posts of announcements of workers joining and leaving, invitations to join the company's gateball team, and a notice for a company dating service. Hmm...
- There is a barber (scene after Chihiro and Lin help keep the futons) and a beauty shop (scene before Lin showed Chihiro a gold nugget given by Kaonashi) in the Yuya.
- The flower bushes that Chihiro and Haku passed through to get to the pig farm are rhododendrons (shakunage).
- Each bath has an individual name; guests who reserve it have their name tags hung outside.
- The herbs strewn in the big tub Sen and Lin were in charge of are iris leaves.
- Chihiro broke into a bathroom (after the pipe trapeze act).
- The bath house was made with concrete and a wooden outer layer; the bridge has steel frame and not pure woodwork. This was to show Yubaaba as a cheapskate.
- The higher floors have more elaborate designs while the lower levels have less decor.
- Yubaaba wrapped in towel - The scene was held in the kitchen. The kitchen was filled with all sorts of pots and pans that were never used. It was made to contrast Zeniiba's kitchen, to show another difference in the twins.
- In one of the kitchen scenes, eleven frogs cooked in the kitchen to serve Kaonashi, of which one is the bandai.
- During production, one of the notice boards had pinups for suggestions of spirits to be included. One of the proposed god was a fish god, but drawn with a note to not use it because "it would be cooked in the bath."
- The movie originally had 1300 scenes, but was increased by 115.
- In the scene where Chihiro was sitting on the balcony with Lin, the moon in the sky was a full moon. However, when Chihiro went down to Zeniiba's cottage, the moon was only a half moon. The difference in the moon phases was definitely intentional and not an error in animation. The storyboard, frame 744 notes column states there's a full moon. It happens during the sequence when Lin and Chihiro are sitting on the ledge after the bathing incident. Frame 1303 shows a half moon and the notes column clearly states it's a half moon. This happens when Chihiro and Haku are flying together back to the Yu-ya.
- The workers of Aburaya are mostly either frog men or slug women. Some of the women have two dots on the forehead.
- When Kamajii banged the wheel to alert the Susuwatari, a chopstick fell from the bowls. However, when he is sweeping off the ground herbs later, there are two chopsticks again.
- When Chihiro first met Kamajii, he complained about four tags coming down at the same time, two of which have a T-shaped mark. These two he answered to, leaving behind 2 others. Later, Lin came down to give him his meal. During one of the scenes, a tag was seen, but it was a T-tag. As mentioned earlier, the T-tags were already attended too, so this might be a mistake. Otherwise, another tag dropped down but was not shown.
- While both Haku and Chihiro's customer are both river gods, Haku has only four claws while the river god has five.
- Chihiro lost conscious memory of the experience. The loss, however, is never total, and it is possible that it could be recalled. (See Zeniiba's comments about Chihiro's past encounter with Haku).
- During the ending scene, the grass around the car has grown a lot, but when driving back to town, the path was mysteriously clear of grass just like the day they arrived.
- Chihiro did not grow as a person during the experience. She had all the qualities (helpfulness, perseverence etc) within herself all along. They were merely brought out by the circumstances.
- Based on dialogue, Chihiro and Lin were assigned to the big tub one Chihiro's first day (or night). The river god also arrived that same night, while Kaonashi made his presence known later in the wee hours of the morning. Everything that happened up to the scene where Chihiro led Kaonashi out took place that same day. That night, Chihiro went to Zeniiba's house and returned with Haku to the Yuya, arriving the next morning. All this seem to suggest that the whole experience took no longer than four days.
