Dear Captain

What to Use

Tools

Tackle: An abalone iron like the one pictured that conforms to the DFG regs. is all you need to pry abalone from the rocks. If you want to get close enough to use it, your going to need all this other gear.

Wet Suit: A full wet suit is needed complete with hood, gloves, and booties. 6mm should keep you warm enough.

Mask and Snorkel: I prefer these with purge valves. Mainly it has to fit comfortably and snug so it doesn't leak.

Fins: If your swimming distances you may want them as long as possible. Otherwise any short fins will work. They must have straps. Duck-Feet style won't go over your booties.

Weight Belt: A weight belt is worn to compensate for the bouyancy of your wet suit. Mine is about 30 lbs.. It needs a quick release buckle so you can drop it if needed.

Float Tube: The float tube serves as your operations base in the water and equipment bag to and from the beach. It should have shoulder straps and a functioning zipper.
