Online Guide to making a subwoofer
Thing to know: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
SPEAKER SIZE RECOMMENDED THICKNESS OF WOOD 5" 3/4 OF A INCH 10" 1 1/2 INCHES 15+" 2 INCHES |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now, Step One: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Get all your supplies. Here is a quick list of what you may need for this project: 1. Wood (Use chart above) 2. Saw & Drill 3. Wood Glue and Nails 4. A high powered speaker 5. Anything else you think you may need. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now Step Two: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pick a design that you are going to use and continue. You could also make your own design. Think carefully. Understand how a sub-woofer works before you continue:

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Allow picture above to load...
Now Mid Note: You should buy a cirucuit board with an amp on it so that it is not a passive sub-woofer. Which means it does not use the stereos watts to power it. A powered subwoofer uses its own power.
Now Step Three: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Make the box design. Nail it all together then get wood glue and glue all the edges so that the whole design is air tight...
Step Four: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Place the speaker in the right way by the picture and then solder it in. Then speaker should be a high powered speaker. You can buy a speaker over the internet easily. JBLS are the best speaker to have to create the kicking sensation w/ the low tones of a sub. You can solder, glue, place, or screw the speaker into the Wood Design.
Step Five: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now once you have finished placing the speaker and the wood design is complete you may add a circuit board w/ amp onto the sub by making a wooden box and placing it in there and screwing it in the outside of the main sub box. You can drill a little hole (big enough for wire to fit in) and feed them to the speaker. Then solder the wires to the speaker. Then snuggle the wires leading from the circuit board w/ the amp to the speaker by glueing the wires to the inside wall. REMEMBER: it is all air rushing in and out on both sides of the speaker so make sure there is no wires sticking out in the chambers of the sub. Now, if you actually bought the amp/circuit board; drill a little hole in the second box so that the volume control knob will fit through it good. Then go ahead and make the board and the knob become one. Make sure that the sub knob can move freely to change the volume up or down. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Step Six: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now, get the last peice of board that it covers the rest of the sub. and screw it on. Make sure that you do not also glue it down because if something ever goes wrong you can fix it without damaging the cover. Know to do the final and touches; You got two wires sticking out of the box, and you have another box with a knob sticking out a little bit. You can get a rubber stopper to snuggle the wires so that they will never fall into the box... Or if you want, you can buy a connection (Look at Picture below). If you do it that way, remove the cover and solder the two wires to the pack. Then cut a hole into the cover and place it. You can then glue it on the box. A way to make it more steady is drill a L shaped hole so that on the outside, when you drop the pack in the hole it rest on the border of a deeper cutting. Then glue it down in there... |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
FINAL STEP: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
NOW YOU CAN ADD SOME GRAPHIC TO YOUR SUB; PAINTING, VARNISHING OR SANDING YOUR WORK. iT IS WISE TO MAKE YOUR BOX PROPERTIES (CUTTING EVERYTHING OUT AND THEN PAINTING, VARNISHING, OR SANDING BEFORE YOU ADD THE ELECTRONICS TO THE BOX... THAT IS HOW TO MAKE A DIY SUB-WOOFER!!!!
