Sohar
This port has historically been
the maritime link between Oman, India and the Far East. Sindbad,
the legendary sailor, is believed to have originated from here. Its
white fort with five towers was built in the13th century. All
along the Batinah coast and inland towards and into the mountains, are
towns and villages boasting forts, date palm plantations, falaj systems
and much of the heritage of Oman. Typical of these towns are:
Suwaiq, Rustaq, Khaburah and Nakhal.
