Dhofar Region
Salalah
This is the largest city in southern
Oman, and has a unique charm with its coconut groves and banana
plantations. It is rapidly becoming a major tourist attraction
and has a very different climate from the rest of Oman due
to the monsoon winds that bring mists and rain to the Dhofar
jebels, promoting lush green growth for several months of the year.
Dhofar is also the source of Oman’s frankinscence, it was trade in
this that helped bring wealth and power to this part of the world
many centuries ago.
Hallaniyat Islands
Juzor al Hallaniyat or the Hallaniyat
islands are a group of islands about 50 kilometres off the coast
of Hasik. The biggest of the islands is Al Hallaniyat and is
right at the centre of the group. Fascinating beaches dot the
islands and are a favourite home for a wide variety of migratory
birds. The coral reefs and unspoilt seas harbour an incredibly rich
marine life.
