Muscat
Muscat is the capital of
the Sultanate of Oman. Surrounded by mountains, dominated by two
Portugese forts, Jalali and Merani, and flanked by a rocky cove and the
ocean, it is a starkly beautiful city mixing the old and the new,
natural beauty and the influence of man to create breathtaking views.
Muttrah
This is the busy commercial center, renowned for its corniche, harbour
with dhows, visiting cruise ships and naval vessels and the fish market
where the day’s catch can be viewed and bought. It is also famous for the
complex maze of the Muttrah souk, a market which offers handcrafted jewelry,
antiques, silver coffee pots, Bedouin rugs, and a
colourful array of products and
foodstuffs imported from all over the Middle east and south east Asia.
The Muscat area ia a busy, bustling cosmopolitan area built among the mountains
that dominate the scenery making it a unique environment, one which seems
to change as the sun and light change through the day.
