System Block Diagram

Both the GPS unit and the mobile unit are connected to the RS-232 ports of the PC. I'm using the Fbus protocol to get the Netmonitor values from the phone. Since there is no official documentation available for the Fbus protocol, so I'm having a lot of problems in getting the netmonitor parametres. The netmonitor parameters I have to extract are :-

  • Received Signal Levels of the serving cell and six neighbouring cells (Netmonitor scereens 1, 3, 4 and 5)
  • Channel number of the serving cell (Netmonitor screen 1 or 11)
  • Timing Advance (Netmonitor screen 1)
  • Transmitted power level (Netmonitor screen 1)
  • Hopping Status (Netmonitor screen 1 or 12)
  • Values of C1 and C2 (Netmonitor screen 1)
  • Type of current channel (Netmonitor screen 1)
  • Network code (Netmonitor screen 6 or 11)
  • Location Area code (Netmonitor screen 11)
  • Cell ID (Netmonitor screen 11)
  • Battery Level (Netmonitor screen 20)

Netmonitor is a hidden menu in most Nokia phones, where almost all the network parameters are shown. Please download the Netmon more more on Nokia netmonitor. You can also read the Nokia Netmonitor Manual.

The other part of the project is to interface the GPS unit (Garmin 12xl). It can be done either using the NMEA 0183 protocol or the Garmin protocol. The decoded lat - long information has to be then shown in the form of a point on a tab/shape file. I'm almost finished with decoding the lat long information, but I don't have a clue about the other part.
