Jewels of Thai - Welcome to our Home

(if the music bugs you, turn it off at the bottom of the page)

People who don't like cats have certainly been a mouse in a previous life!

Jewels of Thai Cattery, where cats and kittens live within the family with full access to all rooms and all parts of life, and sleep in our bed. Our cats and kittens are extremely sweet, snuggly and people oriented. We call them 'attackscuddlers' You don't always see it coming, but won't mind a bit (our Tom can be seen launching himself at unsuspecting humans from his high tree, confident that there will be ready arms to catch him).

I'm in the process of translating the entire site into english, but I won't mirror every single page. So, if you click on a link and see 'German', just scroll down and hunt for the american flag for 'your' section. Easier to maintain that way.

Like many other people who had a siamese cat, we were stumped when after 20 years, we tried to get another one. With awe we stared at the new photos, thinking, what happend? This isn't it!

Well, you can't argue about taste, but we wanted one 'like in old times' (the standard cry of Thai fanatics), and NOT such a slim, batty looking kit like you will find them today everywhere. Everywhere? Not quite. After a long search we finally found 'our' cats (here one of our attack-cuddler, the Star 'Dara')

Surfed the net nights on end, and learned (aha!) now there are TWO types of siamese, and the one our heart desired is now officially called Thai (or traditional siamese / old style siamese). It wasn't easy to get one, the few breeders who held on to the old type had their doors run in, but we would not be stopped. When we finally found the perfect cattery and moved up on the waiting list, OUR cat was no longer an unaccessable dream. Then my husband longingly asked, where was his TOMcat siamese, and life took an interesting turn. I've shared my life with cats as long as I can think back, with kittens (growing up in the country) being a normal part of it, and had been breeding Maine-Coons for nearly two decades, but we were not prepared to be run over like this. NOTHING prepares you for potent siamese, not even the one each of us grew up with and had for most of our lives.

During the next few months (and many visits to the fabulous 'Star of Thai' cattery) we caught the thai fever beyond any reason. Within a year, one kitten turned into four. And we decided, we want that too. Not just to fill our house (a new one we had to move into so all of them had plenty of room to roam and romp) and hearts with Thais, but to spend our lives helping to make sure this wonderful race remains. We cannot express our joy and gratitude to the few breeders who continued to fight over the last two decades to retain the standard and succeed to get the Thais accepted as a registered breed. Our heroes and role models, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!

We have a long way ahead of us, but we were lucky to find a few respected breeders we could add to our 'family', and who will continue to guide us through the first rough years. They can't possibly imagine what that means to us (ok, so they can). It is not easy to be allowed to enter these hallowed halls, and we are honored to be included.

Our goal is to help that the traditional siamese (thai) in the base colors seal point, chocolate point, and now lilac point (my DH kept needling me how cuuuuute those lilacs were, and he won. When we chose Dara, a little lilac girl kept toddling up to us, and it was no contest to decide which one we would take home. BOTH!) to not only maintain the beauty, but most of all, the impeccable character of very people oriented furfolk. Crossbreeding isn't an option for us, although we are looking at moderate siamese lines to bring in new blood from time to time. Character will be the deciding factor, therefore the incomparable 'cuddle-gene' must be included. For the future I aim to improve eye color and maintain superb coat quality, and of course it goes without saying, health.

(Dara, Joy, Adonis, Frodo)

Longterm, we hope to achieve a tribe of cats who will ensure we'll always have a full house. With over 200 square meters of living space and a huge bed, who knows if 'full house' is the end of it. With friends and contacts around the globe (it is possible we'll eventually end up in the states, my husband is american) we have a good foundation for the future. It IS our plan to remain in Germany, Bavaria at the moment where we just bought that huge white elephant of a house, but you never know what the future brings. Either way, in my husband and myself two people have come together who agree: Who needs vacations, WE have Thais :)

A word about the character.... both of us have seen, visited, and 'owned' many cats of various different breeds, but such a personality of sweet, cuddly, and 'permanently attached' to their people as our Thais neither one of us has experienced before. Total body contact, head butts, and purrs for hours on end (no wonder the Muellers, Cattery Star of Thai, warn about the addictive factor of their kittens). These furbabies are simply ALWAYS there, perfectly sweet, and dont' have a single negative quirk that we can detect. It may be that we were lucky to 'pick the best', but I'm sure a lot has to do with the fact that these kittens are raised with permanent human contact. Luckily, as I work from my home, and mostly on the computer, I can afford them the same luxury and as a result, we end up with a dream of a well socialized kitten, who is ready to conquer the world when it leaves us.

No wonder with that combination of time, and pedigree. You will find such famous ancestors as Wusel von der Falkenhöhe, Sky Eyes Petite Fleur, Briska Pretty Girl v.d. Falkenhöhe, Else v.d. Birke, Angelo v.d. Falkenhöhe, or Sky Eyes Pablo, to just name a few. The ONLY problem with our furballs I see is to be able to part with our offspring, it always hurts way too much to give them up. I take a gloomy view of that, or as Germans would say: I see black. Or rather brown, chocolate, or lilac - lol.
