Once upon a whale's tale...

Once upon a whale’s tale, I swam in currents deeper,

more solitary; fulfilling my destiny, searching

to remember who I was. Still, you swim and I am here.

Dive to depths beyond the depths we know,

Share your knowledge with those who wish to know it,

Cherish the memories you may have yet to lose.

The depths rise deeper, but still you rise to breathe.

Bubbles blown from hope spout unfathomable ideas.

Your existence, drenched in joy, seeks the perfect oblivion.

Lose the past in deep twirls of blue, and dive

towards the depths of eternity; forgetting yourself

in the depths of reflection, of ocean, of wisdom, of spirit, of dreams.

Each whale in the sea is a dream I had as a child;

a life I once lived. I swam in ecstasy, and breathed

the sea’s oxygen. In sleep, I believed in its purity.

As did you...

Until the vibrations of destruction tore schisms

through your element, like a ribbon of red

through the blue, leaving you alone to dive.

On TV we see the tale, which makes our hearts bleed-

while we sit in our armchairs clicking buttons, hopelessly,

watching bubbles we simply cannot fathom.

I see myself cry, lost in my world, then I remember –

I am one with you, I am you – I am sinking fast, struggling to rise

from the depths of reflection, of ocean, of wisdom, of spirit, of dreams.

With fingers I no longer possess I pull

the harpoon from my side, and surface in agony

to the light – where the pain is, and the terror, and the knowledge.

But there is nowhere left to go!

Only by dying can I justify my existence;

Redeem my living; be free. Now, I remember…

Once upon a whale’s tale, I swam in currents deeper

And dived to depths beyond the deepest depths.

I share your knowledge and cherish your memories.

Bubbles blown spout hope for tomorrow – eternity lives in the oceans of time.
