 Born Arjumand Banu, Mumtaz Mahal was the woman in whose memory the was built.

 Her  had travelled from Persia to India and settled himself well in his new land.  His  married King Jehangir and his became the prime minister of the Persian empire.

 Mumtaz was the daughter of this She was born in 1598.

 Mumtaz Mahal met Mughal (later known as Shah Jahan) in New Delhi's Meena bazaar when she was only fourteen.

 She was selling exquisite pieces of glass and diamonds. The prince bought a diamond worth ten thousand rupees, paid in cash on the spot, went home to the emperor and asked to be married to

They were married in a grand ceremony in 1612. She remained a very faithful companion to her husband and bore him fourteen children. She received the highest honour of the land - the royal seal, Mehr Uzaz - from her husband. It is said that she gave allowances to widows and orphans. The stories of her virtue spread all over the empire.

the emperor took a long journey to the south (today's Maharashtra) to suppress the Lodi empire.

 Mumtaz Mahal decided to accompany her husband to the south. She never saw her home again. On the 8th June, in 1631, in the city ofshe died, one day after giving birth to a daughter. She was only 38 at the time. Legend has it that during their last moments together, the dying empress asked her beloved husband for an immortal monument of their love.

It took her husband 22 years and most of his royal treasury, but the empress did get her wish. In her name stands the most beautiful building in the universe, that monument of love, purity and unparalleled beauty called the
