Since beginning our topic I have improved vastly in my knowledge of computing operations. I now know the very basics of setting up a web page, as well as how to operate Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations. I have accomplished a lot in the area of retrieving information and applying it to our presentation. The only annoying thing has been that the data from the school computers isn’t compatible at home. |

The skills I have improved on the computer process at high school would be [sic] how to set up a webpage or powerpoint. Mrs Teirney taught us how the process works in a few easy lessons and now I will always remember. I feel excited about completing computer activities in English. Not only does it give me extra practice in computer skills. Also I learn more and more things about the computer when I am on one than just in a classroom. It is also a fun way to learn about topics and interests. I have improved on the computers in English because I have an excellent powerpoint and speech to present to the class in late November. I feel I have improved in many aspects and I have had fun through the unit.

I think the use of computer skills in class are [sic] of great benefit, because in computing you learn to use Word and type first up. When you use them in class you can experiment with different programs as well as learning how to use computers in conjunction with other work. |

I think that the computing is very valuable and learning how to do PowerPoint and things like that is a great experience. I think that computers are great!! |

I’ve learned heaps in computing. I’m studying Computing this semester. But in English I’ve learned heaps more. Only the other day I learned how to make a web page. I’ve had no idea how in the past. I know about the sight [sic] Discover and lots of links to it. I think that this has been a really worthwhile unit and you should repeat it next year. I have learned and enjoyed all round and found it a great change.

I think my computer skills have improved since I arrived at Ogilvie. I now type with all my fingers and I know how to explore the Net. |
CS |
While doing research on the Taj Mahal, I have learnt to make a PowerPoint presentation [and] search the internet for appropriate information and pictures. I think that my computer skills while doing this India unit have improved widely and now I feel more confident doing research on computers. |
AM |
My skills have improved greatly – in everything.

Before I did computers at Ogilvie, I wasn’t very good at using a computer, but now I’m in Grade 8 I am getting better. We had some trouble with our slide show at first but now we have talked to Kiri’s Dad and found out what we were doing wrong. We are going to save our slideshow on the Zip thing that Kiri’s Dad showed us and later we are thinking of saving it on a CD. |

After understanding how to use Discover, I have found it interesting and worthwhile. What I found annoying was that my username didn’t work, making it difficult for me. The best computer skills I’ve learnt this term apart from Discover was the small unit on e-mail. I have found that learning to add attachments has been worthwhile as our group has been sending ppt, pictures and information back and forth a lot. |

This year I have improved my computer skills heaps! I have done lots more on the internet and adapted to it well. Also my typing skills have become more fluent, which is great! |

This term we have been doing a unit on India. The class goals have been for us all to learn more about India, to learn more about computers and the internet and to be able to work independently. I have enjoyed most of the unit. I enjoyed being able to work with more freedom than we usually have. I especially enjoyed learning how to make our own webpages! It was such a great feeling seeing our very own webpages, even if they didn’t have much information on them. I found it annoying when we couldn’t get a computer though. I think my computing skills have improved lots. I have especially improved on my skills using the internet. I have really enjoyed learning about webpages. |

The goal for the class was to learn and understand the culture of India using different technologies, not only to improve our knowledge of India but also to improve our research skills, organisation skills, computer skills, working in groups, communication skills and the internet. What I enjoyed about the Indian project was the internet tasks. I loved putting my points and views on the Discover web forum. My favourite activity on the Sunitra website was the Six Blind Men of Indostan. I liked that activity because it was something that I could interpret in my own way and share what I thought on Discover. I didn’t find anything annoying or confusing about the work. It was all clear and very fun. I have found that my internet skills have improved and I am more of an effective user. My touch typing has also improved. Also I know what are better search engines and which ones I need. I have also learnt how to locate information faster and better. |

It is great to use the computers in English class because you don’t always do what you want in Computing and I’ve learnt more about the internet and PowerPoint in English. |
AH |
I thought that doing the forum was quite fun. I hadn’t gone on a forum before and it was a whole new experience for me. But it was a little annoying when your writing wouldn’t send. All [my] computer skills are definitely improving.

I think that this term has been a great year [sic] in English. I have built up my computing skills. My partner and I have used how to use the Microsoft PowerPoint software. I have enjoyed using this fun software as it is a different type of learning. I think my computing skills have improved heaps. |
JM |
I think it is good to use computers in class because you build up your skills and you learn more things about the internet and it tells you more things about a topic that you are researching than the books do. |

Mrs Teirney’s goals were to help every one of us to learn more about India, the land, culture and styles. She intended all of us to learn more computer skills, such as making PowerPoints and webpages. All the computer facts we have learnt have become very useful. Some of the computer work was confusing but in the end, everything worked out. I didn’t know much about computers when we began. I have learnt how to make a simple webpage and how to make a PowerPoint, which I had never done before, and lots of publishing skills. The making of webpages and PowerPoints has probably been the most enjoyable task ... because we learn more about the computers and we can let our imaginations go wild and something good comes out of it. I also enjoyed finding information for this and I learned many facts along the way. |

I think the enjoyable aspects so far are using the computer for work, such as our PowerPoints. It’s really fun and it doesn’t even feel like work because it is so fun! |
SE |
Mrs Teirney has taught me how to make a front coverpage and internet sites. I never knew how to do this and now I’ll b able to design other cover pages now. |
EGE |
Before high school I had near no experience using computers. But in Grade 7 we had Computing for a semester, where I learned the basics of touch typing and how to use Word. Using the computer in English has helped me to develop skills by using PowerPoint and the internet. |
SL |
I feel good that I know how to create a PowerPoint and how to start a webpage. |
KH |
Before I came to Ogilvie, I learnt quite a bit on computers from my brother, who is choosing a career in IT (Information Technology), which might be an interesting place for me too. From this India unit, I have learnt how to put things in Winzip from our experience from going to Nicole’s place and wasting time using one disk per picture. Tonight I am going to learn how to put Winzip on floppy and burn it onto a CD. I have learnt a bit about e-mail, although I knew how to do it already. I love learning new stuff on computers. |
