What The Industry Values

The three things that the industry values the most are "songs, an artist’s personal service, and an artist’s identity"(Recording 4). Songs, both recorded and parts of publishing contracts are protected by copyrights. The artist’s name is protected by trademark, and an artist’s personal service, which includes recording contracts and live appearances, are mostly protected by the contract, "but also by various statutes and principles of common law"(4).
