Description

Yellow Submarine (in Brazil: Submarino Amarelo) was a surreal cartoon movie, in which The Beatles were the main characters. It was made without the participation of the group (even the voices weren't theirs, only the music), but when they saw the result, they liked so much that decided to make a cameo appearance at the end.

On the other hand, The Beatles had at that time four finished songs that remained unissued: Only a Northern Song, All Together Now, It's All Too Much and Hey Bulldog (the first three recorded in 1967 and the last in 1968). They were then used in the film (although Hey Bulldog was removed after the premiere) and, although an EP of this songs was cogitated, it was decided to make a new album, including some old songs that also appeared on the film (the title track and All You Need Is Love) and instrumental tracks by George Martin, that fill side 2.

The instrumental side is rarely mentioned by Beatles enthusiasts, as of course isn't a Beatles record!
But Pepperland is a familiar song even to non-Beatles fans. It became known again in Brazil in 1989, in an electric guitar arrangement by Robertinho do Recife, one of the best Brazilian guitar players.
Also, these tracks include Beatles references, the more evident is Yellow Submarine in Pepperland, an instrumental arrangement for Yellow Submarine. There is also a quotation from Within You Without You (in Sea of Time), and, in the best Beatles style, backwards sounds.

This album features the return of long sleeve notes, abandoned after Beatles For Sale. But instead of describing the album, the text is actually a review of the White Album. In Brazil, it was again translated.
As the text is full of quotations from White Album songs, translation made them hard to associate, so I made a quotation reference file.

The old issues (non-remastered) have the title in Portuguese on the disc label: Trilha Sonora do Filme Submarino Amarelo.
