The Festival
The 1979 contest was the second Israeli "Kdam", and was still under the name "Pestival Hazemer Vehapizmon" (The Israeli song festival).
The previous year's success at the Eurovision brought the contest to Israel in 1979 for the first time, and the winning song in this festival brought victory to Israel for the second time in a row.
Gali Atari and the band "Halav Udvash" (Milk & Honey) were the winners.
Theire song, "Hallelujha", became one of the most known Israeli songs in the world, and almost became a national anthem in Israel, winning "Song of the year 1979" in the local charts.
Tzvika Pik came second in his first attemp to reach the Eurovision with the song "Ein Li Ish Milvadi" (I Have Nobody Else Beside Myself).
The song "Le'olam Beikvot Hashemesh" (Forever After The Sun) was not very notable in the 1979 "Kdam" (fifth place) but it became a huge hit it in these recent days due to the glorious comeback of the 70's music in Israel. The creation of Ehud Manor and Roni Vais was sung by Shery, the Disco queen of those days. Shery (Sherlot Alyas) was discovered in the same contest a year earlier in the song "Lama Lo" (Why Not) which reached the fourth place.
