The Selection
The IBA had decided that there will be no traditional "Kdam" this year. Instead there was a pre-selection of 4 songs, all sung by the super-star singer Yardena Arazi.
Yardena had tried her luck in the "Kdam" three times before, but with no success. She also presented the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest and the 1987 Kdam. This time, IBA had decided that due to her huge popularity (female singer of the year for three years in a row) she is the right choise of representing Israel in the contest.
Yardena set in the television studio, next to Rivka Michaeli, a popular Israeli TV host, and together showed a short biography film about Yardena's musical career, (including 3 tries in the Kdam-Eurovision). After that Yardena featured her four (very lovely!) songs, which the audience would vote for in a telephone voting.
The chosen song in the selection was "Ben-Adam" (Human Being), a gypsy style song. the song reached the 7th position in Dublin.
