One can only keep their creative juices contained for so long, and after nearly three years of self-imposed retirement from the music world former Blacke Thorne/Dublinn bassist Syd Edwards returned to the scene on December 31st., 1998. After a short stint with a southern Ohio-based cover band he began feeling the urge to return to a project he had abandoned when he made the decision to retire, blew the dust off the collection of demos he had created throughout his career, and NOOSE was born.

Teaming up with former Mistress Winter/Sick World guitarist Jared Leach at SBM Studios (which Leach had just finished building,) Edwards began recording what he planned to be a five-song EP he later titled "Fragments". Featuring two remakes, (Lycia's "Nine Hours Later" and Berlin's "The Metro,") the remaining cuts were loosely based on ideas Syd had since early in his career. After two cuts were completed and a third (minus the vocal tracks,) neared completion the project began to fall behind schedule and eventually ground to a halt. Not long thereafter Leach relocated to Huntington, WV to join Dark Fantasy.

"The project is a look into those areas of the mind we all seldom allow light to be shed on for fear we might find we enjoy them," he stated,"when faced with this I found myself overwhelmed with ideas and I lost focus. So I put the project back on the shelf for the time being. I was being way to demanding on myself trying to do everything but the guitar and drum parts, I had never sang in a studio much less played keyboards... Believe me, though, "Fragments" will be finished eventually. I just have to refine everything before I go back in the studio."

In December,1999 Syd joined Usual Suspects, a classic rock/blues group from Ravenswood, WV. "This was an offer I couldn't refuse, the band has a chemistry that is undeniable. Egos are checked at the door before every rehearsal, everyone pulls their weight to the best of their abilities and I get to work with (former Hanover Fist/Nachtanz guitarist) Larry Roush again. In just a matter of weeks I felt like I had finally found a working environment like I had always wanted in previous bands I had been a member of."

In May of this year Usual Suspects began making a selected few appearances live and the group are currently at work preparing to hit the road throughout the fall and winter. Edwards will also be working with Leach again, making a guest appearance on an upcoming project scheduled for release later this year.
