Don't give in to corporate hype! Think for yourself!
ENTRY 40: (01/10/00) I just heard the sad news that Lycia, whose great song "Nine Hours Later" I am covering on the EP, have disbanded. I suppose all good things must come to an end, but indeed this is news I really never wanted to hear. I don't know any of the details and really, that doesn't matter anyway, what does is that the great collection of CDs released by Lycia is still available and will always be around to influence me very deeply. I wish Mike, Tara, Dave and John (who I never met,) the best in whatever they are planning on doing in the future! For now, I am going to go listen to "The Burning Circle and Then Dust" and hold on to the faint memories of days goneby.
ENTRY 39: (01/09/00) Wow, shocked that I'm updating this thing again so soon? Well, really not alot is new, just wanted to update you on a few things that I have in the works, the first being deals for new basses for my arsenal, a five-string and a fretless. I've been wanting both for a long time now and it looks like one of each may be in my grubby hands in the near future. Originally I had planned to convert the P-Bass copy I recently rebuilt to fretless but the cost of a fretless neck was way too expensive. I may be swapping for the five-string, most probably my Aria for it, but considering that it hasn't been out of the case since the day I bought the Fernandes, I guess it's loss won't effect me too much. She's been a good bass, but times change and some of the music that we've been jamming on at rehearsals require some retuning. Why bother when that extra string is there?!LOL!!!!
I have also been on a big Tom Cochrane kick here recently. Don't know exactly what brought it on, but there's been alot of old Red Rider and his solo stuff pumping out of the stereo system around the house recently. In fact I suggested we redo "Life Is A Highway" at the last rehearsal, someone needs to make up for that horrible country version that came out not too long ago!!!!
I'd also like to take this chance to wish JC the best in his move to Huntington, WV. Thanks for everything on the EP, bro, you did a hell of a job on it! Folks, JC has something in the works bandwise, I'm really looking forward to seeing what develops!
ENTRY 38: (01/05/00) Well , the big Y2K scare is over and I am sure glad not to have to hear about it any longer. As you can tell, this project has fallen to the wayside in the wake of more pressing issues that I won't be recounting here for fear you will fall asleep from boredom. "Fragments" (The EP) has been put on hold. At the present time I am still working on the final two cuts but as to when they will be recorded I do not know. SBM Studios has moved and right now I don't have access to another recording facility. In the meantime I have been jamming with a new (as yet unnamed) band that features my good buddy Larry Roush on guitar. I don't know what will come of it exactly but we are planning on a limited schedule of dates sometime later this year. CJB.net has seen fit to declare this site unfit for them to redirect so I am also currently looking for a new redirection service. I will keep you updated on both happenings, I PROMISE!!!!!
ENTRY 37: (09/11/99) Due to some family commitments things have once again been thrown off schedule. More when I get the chance.
ENTRY 36: (09/03/99) JC and I have been working on the drums for "Fragments," the final cut and hope to have them recorded by Sunday. In the meantime, here's a story about Dave, a buddy of mine, who got a job at a morgue:

Dave showed up to his first day of work and the coroner told him that, to start off easy he would be washing and photographing the bodies. The first body he cleaned up and photographed from the front, he then flipped the body over and after taking a few pictures, he saw a cork sticking from the man's rectum. He found this odd and thought he'd better remove it. After all, he wanted to show he could do his appointed tasks and missing such an item may look bad on his first day of work.
The second the cork was removed Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps" began playing loudly from the body's rectum.
Totally amazed, he ran to his bosses office and reported what had happened. The coroner looked at him with a bored expression on his face and shook his head:
"Come on Dave," the coroner said, "You shouldn't be surprised, everybody knows any a**hole can play Southern Rock!!"

Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction!!

ENTRY 35: (08/20/99) Finally got to cut the alternate version of "Nine Hours Later" with me doing the vocals. Now, the person who requested this mix, I hope something nasty happens to you, like an onion falling on your head!! Better yet, I hope JC's guard skunk gets you! Anyway, a big kudo to JC for putting up with my endless takes again, so now I'll plug his now finished release, "JC and the Doomsday Experience", which should be hitting the waves any day now. Grab it folks, it rocks! OOOooooooooo that JC's one bad mutha (shut yer mouth!)
ENTRY 34: (08/17/99) Whoops, got a little behind here, so two updates are being crammed into one... Went into SBM Studios on the 12th. and worked a little more on the master mix of "The Metro", JC fixed a few little problems that I had found in the previous mixes and now, I can honestly tell him that he will never again have to listen to that song through headphones again! (LOL!) Went back on Sunday, the 15th. (Happy Birthday, Caiti!) and we worked on the drum tracks for "Fragments". Things went well and the plan is to have a radio edit and an "album version". I hope to start cutting it on the 19th.
ENTRY 33: (08/09/99) Finally, two songs mixed and ready! "Nine Hours Later" and "The Metro" are both finished and ready to go, next Thursday we'll either be cutting the vocals for "E-M-P" or the rough tracks for "Fragments." BTW, if you go to SBM Studios anytime soon watchout for JC's guard skunk, looks like he feeds it a very high protein diet! LMAO! Postponed get together with Rusty and Steve because of scheduling conflicts...More to come!
ENTRY 32: (08/08/99) I am working on a limited distribution deal with a national music outlet store, that way you can order the cassette directly from them without any of the hassles! Don't have a price set yet, but I am planning on adding a little surprise to all of the copies ordered in this manner. More tonight after the session!
ENTRY 31: (08/07/99) Postponed the normal Thursday night session cause of a slight medical problem (I have a killer toothache!). Jammed Auguts 2nd. with former Head Dizzy vocalist Rusty Ballinger and Steve Draper (another of the many killer guitarists who were once Larry Roush's students,) had fun but didn't get alot accomplished. Rusty was in good form despite quite a few months away from the stage. We're getting back together on the 9th. to see if anything is going to gel. Am going into SBM tomorrow night to try and cut the vocal tracks for "E-M-P". I got another sneak preview of JC's new stuff, man it is beyond awesome!
ENTRY 30: (07/30/1999) Got the tape speed problems solved and did the final mix for "The Metro", will be finishing up "Nine Hours Later" in the next few days and I hope to be cutting the vocals on "E-M-P" as well. "Fragments" is ready to go, so I hope to get to it the during next session. The other big news is that I may be signing up with a live band again, stay tuned for details! On the other hand I am considering making "Fragments a four-song release so I can meet the deadline I have set for it's release. If I do, I will be excluding "Hanging (By A Knot of Satisfaction" and I will have Larry Roush play on "Fragments" instead.
ENTRY 29: (07/28/1999) Got together with JC tonight at my humble abode to flesh out a few rough spots in "Fragments", looks like I may just be ready to cut it in the next few sessions. In the meantime it looks like "The Metro" and "Nine Hours Later" are going to be mixed down in the next week or so.

No mud, no mass of sweaty people who haven't bathed for three days, no corporate sponsors, no five dollar hamburgers, no sleeping in a tent, no standing up to your ankles in feces to take a leak in private, no MTV coverage, no bonfires, no broken bones or being trampled,no other bands..."We must be in heaven man!"
ENTRY 28: (07/23/99) Did the final mixdown for "The Metro" and "E-M-P" but we're having a problem with the tape speed so odds are we'll be redoing it next sesion. I now have almost all of the lyrics written for "Fragments", if I am lucky I'll try to cut a scratch take of that next week as well.
ENTRY 27: (07/14/99) I finally added a pic of the basses I am using live and in the studio on the Gear page, check it out!
ENTRY 26: (07/09/99) Finally finished up the vocal tracks to "The Metro", check out the final version on the sound page. I have also included a hilarious bad take where I was possessed momentarily by the ghost of Mel Torme and attempted (in vain) to sing scat! Next come the vocals to "Nine Hours Later", I hope we can get this done during our next session. Dig the pic of JC, the Minister of Music himself!
ENTRY 25: (07/08/99) OK, now that we all have agreed that I look like s**t in the pic below, let's get on to bigger and better things. First of all, there's new pics of my gear coming within the week. There is also a chance I'll put up a pic or two of the Rollins Band live, if they came out. I'm going back into the studios tonight and the plan is to finish cutting the vocals for "Nine Hours Later." I have also been working on the lyrics for "E-M-P" all this week, but I'm still running into a monsterous case of writer's block. In the meantime I have been reading "Fail Safe" and some vintage mags that have articles about atomic weapons hoping something might spark an idea. The lyrics to "Fragments" are also coming along. Odds are I'll cut a vocal track for that song once it is done, but only as a guide for whoever winds up singing on it. I'm still beat from the show, and I'm sure JC will be exhausted, as he went to see Gwar tonight, but that's never stopped us before. Keep your fingers crossed for a cool evening for me, it can get hot in the studio; I was sweating like Barry White in Bermuda when I cut the vocals for "The Metro"!

ENTRY 24: (07/07/99) Don't have time for an update tonight, but here's a pic of a tired and sweaty me with Henry Rollins after the show tonight. It's courtesy of the guys at American Nightmare magazine. Thanks Andy and Chris! BTW, the show rocked and they did a cover of "Are You Ready" by Thin Lizzy! More to come soon!
ENTRY 23: (07/05/99) Thanks to my buddy "Wild" Bill my computer is running great and I have some new audio software to play with! I'm currently in the midst of trying to get some MP3's cut to include for those of you with Winamp. JC and I are going to see The Rollins Band tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to that, I haven't seen Henry live yet and I hear it's an intense show. There is also a chance that we may be doing a remix of "The Metro" with a local girl doing the vocals, I'll keep you updated on this! We're going back in the studio Thursday and I am planning on cutting the vocals to "Nine Hours Later" and maybe tweaking the mix a little on "The Metro". After that (if there's time) I'm hoping to get the drum tracks down for the next cut.I'm still shooting for having all of the tracks done by mid-August.
ENTRY 22: (07/02/99) A very productive session that made up for a perfectly dreadful day. Cut the vocal tracks for "The Metro" (OK Michael, your turn!) and Jared worked on the vocal tracks for "Nine Hours Later" the former is now finished. Spoke with Joel Whitcomb(see pic at left), the voice of Ludlow tonight and he agreed to collaborate on a few tracks later this summer. This will all be done through the mail but I'm anxiously looking forward to it. I heard the latest cut off Jared's project last night and was knocked out by it. Speaking of Jared, I want to thank him for putting up with me tonight, this being the first time I have ever put vocals down in a studio I overdid it a bit on takes but he never got flustered once. Waves of the finished product will be up by the holidays!
ENTRY 21:(06/27/99) Spoke with Michael Rozon again tonight (actually interupted a session, sorry guy!) and everything is set as soon as the material is ready. He is also trying to get in contact with one of the first singers I envisioned appearing on this project, so keep your fingers crossed on this one! Micheal will also be adding vocals to a cut on the EP but it only if I also sing on it... Anyone know the number of a vocal coach?!!!! I also had a nice chat with a buddy of mine in Canada tonight who will help spread the word around up in the frozen north.
ENTRY 20: (06/26/99) Went back into SBM on the 24th. and JC added the guitar tracks to "The Metro". The song is now complete (that makes three now!) except for vocals and a few minor touches. Will be getting back together on July 1st. to work on "Fragments". Hoping to have this all finished by the end of July. Crazy Jane were excellent, as usual, a really tight unit with some catchy tunes.
ENTRY 19: (06/24/99): Went back in the studios last night and finished up the keyboard tracks for "The Metro". Going back in tonight to try and finish everything else up except the vocals. Also going to see Crazy Jane tonight, this is a WV-based band that I once played with (under the moniker of Dublinn,)who have gone on to carve out a niche for themselves on the alternative rock scene. I'm really looking forward to seeing them for the first time in years. I also heard a little of the latest stuff JC is putting together and man does it rock! When you're done here, go to the links page and checkout his site to hear a few waves. Also, look for new waves and some new pics coming sometime this week.
ENTRY 18: (06/18/99) JC and I got together last night and decided to scrap all plans we had for the session for something fresh, which was a much needed change. We laid down the drum, bass and some keyboard tracks for the second remake, "The Metro," originally recorded by Berlin. Don't get any pre-conceived notions here folks, you've not heard the song like this, believe me! I hope to get the guitar and additional keyboard tracks down next Thursday; if we do expect a wave on the sound page!
ENTRY 17: (06/11/99) After skipping our normal Wednesday session because of the heat, JC and I got together on the 10th. and tweaked both "E-M-P" and "Nine Hours Later". Both are complete except for vocals, which JC will be laying down on the latter as soon as he can. The lyrics for "E-M-P" are nearly finished, so we're that much closer. Have decided on a second remake, more to come on this later. Still working on "Fragments" here at home, it'll be next on the list followed by the final cut. A bonus track may be added to a select few copies, but that is still in the works...I also registered the project's name tonight.
Mike and Tara of Lycia visted the site and seemed really interested in my remake of their great song. A special "Hi" also goes out to Tara's Mom, Kay!
ENTRY 16: (06/04/99) Finally got word that the special guest vocalist for "Nine Hours Later" will not be able to do the recording due to health reasons. (Hope you feel better soon, Mike!) So...Our own J.C. has offered to step up to the plate and apply his vocal skills to the recording. I added a second wave from "E-M-P" today, the outro and beginning of JC's blistering lead break. Check it out, he was in rare form that night! We have decided final tweaking and mix down will take place on the 9th. for both "E-M-P" and "Nine Hours Later".
ENTRY 15: (06/15/99) Because I couldn' get my a** out of bed yesterday I got to SBM late, but fear not, much was accomplished! The samples have been added to "E-M-P" and the song is almost complete! Expect a wave in the next few days. Vocals are all that is left to do and as soon as I am 100% happy with the lyrics they will bw put down and the song finished up. I'm still debating on what remake will be included, since I have lost the spark to do "Head Over Heels", a bunch of songs have been thrown on the table but none have really caught my attention yet.
ENTRY 14: (06/01/99) JC has been working on the guitar parts for "E-M-P" since the last session. I'm pleased as hell with what I'm hearing! Looks like two cuts from this EP will be featured on a sampler that SBM Productions will be putting out soon. I'm looking forward to that! I contacted another potential guest vocalist, I'll let you know if anything comes of that! Check out the new wave from "E-M-P" on the sounds page...
ENTRY 13: (05/27/99) Hello from SBM Studios! I'm in here listening to JC cut some blazing fretwork on "E-M-P" while I'm basically being a lazy bast**d, surfing the net and depleting the supply of Dr. Pepper... Things are coming along nicely, the guitar tracks for "E-M-P" are almost all done, which leaves the vocals and samples to do and it'll be ready. By the way, a little secret about JC's warm up routine, pop in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and blaze away! Next week, vocal exercises to "The Exorcist"!
ENTRY 12: (05/21/99) On Wednesday I added the keyboard tracks to "E-M-P" and during the week JC added the guitar track to the middle section. Lyrics are coming along, only a few lines to go! Hope to have this one done at our next session. Today I picked up a new bass for the arsenal, a 1997 Fernandes APB-4 that I have had my eye on for months. I think the Aria may have just been relegated to second fiddle (pun intended.) Also picked up a few other odds and ends.
SEE SYD AND HIS NUMBER ONE FAN
ENTRY 11: (05/13/99) Laid down drum, bass synth and bass guitar tracks for a new song called "E-M-P",(orignially titled "Electroglide"). It's my look at the Cold War and how it affected me personally. JC is going to cut the guitar tracks later this week, so a new wave may be added, but in the meantime there's about 20 seconds of what's finished to be found on the SOUNDS page.

BORED YET? CHECKOUT THE LATEST VIAGRA AD!

ENTRY 10: (05/06/99) Added keyboard tracks to "Nine Hours Later" and began work on the third cut, "Electroglide". I can't believe how good this all sounds! Added waves from the rough mixes of "Fragments" and "Nine Hours Later" to the SOUNDS Page, check 'em out!

ENTRY 9: (04/30/99)Laid down drumtracks, bass and guitars for "Nine Hours Later" on Wednesday night. Am really happy with how that went, hope to go in and do the keys, second guitar and (maybe) vocals some time this weekend. Though still suffering with a mental block musically the lyrics to "Fragments" are coming together fairly quickly. WTF is up with the guestbook, here everybody tells me they want one then nobody signs it...
"I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching" -- Emily Dickinson

ENTRY 8: (04/28/99)Get together with Larry on Thursday was productive, turned into an all out jam session that lastest nearly four hours. I got the chance to hear a few of the things he is working on for his own project and was really amazed. Been suffering from a mental block the past few days so it looks as though I'm going into the studios tonight just to "let it flow." Am reconsidering a few things related to the project, mainly the ideas I had for the cut "Electroglide", this cut may be replaced by something else. Also reconsidering whether or not to remake "Head Over Heels" have a few other ideas for songs to do. Keep checking here for more updates!
ENTRY 7: (04/22/99)Stepped into SBM Studios last night and laid down most of the drumtracks for the song "Fragments". Even took the time to do some scratch recordings with bass and JC on guitar that really are getting close to what I am hearing in my head! Came back home and did a little editing, but all in all there's about 4 minutes of percussion down now and the skeletal bass track. Looks like this is going to be alot more of a collabrative effort than I first thought, some of JC's input actually took this thing alot further than I thought it would. It's a welcomed change to have a musician be so in-touch with what I want to do musically. Hoping to get back into the studio before next week. Later today I'm going over to Dream Catcher Music to jam with Larry. While there I am hoping to get a little preliminary work done for track five, "Hanging (By a Knot of Satisfaction)". Still undecided about future live band plans at this time, but the options are narrowed down to three possibilities. Stay tuned for news on that and some waves on the sound page!
SEE THE NUMBER ONE PLACE SYD WILL NEVER SIT...

ENTRY 6: (04/20/99) OK, OK, I've added a guestbook! Is everybody happy now? I'm headed for S.B.M. Studios tomorrow to lay down a few preliminary tracks. Looks like I'll be roughly doing the songs in order, "Fragments" first, etc.
ENTRY5: (04/13/99) After much talk and some procrastination it looks as though the project will officially get going in the next few days. Jared Leach and I have decided to put our heads together and start laying rhythm tracks down in his studio some time this week. As soon as there is something cohesive down on tape I will add it to the site! The two of us have decided that working together is beneficial to both of us and it appears as though I'll be appearing on a few tracks on his soon-to-be released project, -|- JC -|-. I have officially severed my ties with Amix as of last night.

ENTRY4: (03/30/99) Because of creative differences I have decided to leave Amix, the group I have been appearing with. I have decided to remain with them until a replacement has been found, however. At this time I am considering a few offers that have come my way and depending on the amount of workload that includes I will have to keep the recording and release dates open for NOOSE. One great development is that Jared Leach has started his home studio finally and it looks as though most of the tracks will be laid down there. I am still hopeful for a July or August completion date. Also I have made the decision that one of the original tracks on this EP will now feature vocals, the lyrics will be appearing on the site as soon as I have completed them. This will be my debut as a vocalist, and probably the last time I will ever do this.
ENTRY3: (03/01/99) Work still continues on preliminary tracks. Jared Leach and I have been sharing a number of ideas and he introduced me to a great new amplifier, the Crate BX-100. Folks, this is the best purchase I have ever made! Want to know why? Click Here. The release date has also been pushed back to coincide with my vacation time with Amix.

ENTRY2: (01/23/99) Preliminary work continues on the two remake tracks. The biggest development is that Drain The Doves' Michael Rozon has agreed to appear on the project and to help in the mastering process. Rozon has also agreed to remix at least one track that may be added as a bonus to the EP.

ENTRY1: (12/20/98) Preliminary work on the backing tracks for two of the cuts is going well, have run into a few glitches but I attribute that to my lack of familiarity with the sound program I am using to edit the drum tracks and samples.
