Hi! Welcome to my homepage!

A page devoted to Renaissance

As far as I am concerned, the term Renaissance refers to a time in history when the world was in a period of rebirth. Great artistic and scientific geniuses, such as: Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo dominated art. However, in a more contemporary light, Renaissance was a magnificent art rock group who borrowed from the late 19th and early 20th century composers in order to create their own variation on art rock ! The original group consisted of: Keith Relf(vocals) and Jim McCarty(drums)who were former members of the Yardbirds, John Hawken(piano), Jane Relf(vocals), Louis Cennamo(bass). However, the group which most people are familiar with featured vocalist: Annie Haslam who had an incredible 3 octave range and a very beautiful tone. The other musicians were extraordinary, especially: keyboard player John Tout, bassist John Camp and drummer Terry Sullivan. Another extraordinary musician was Michael Dunford- the acoustic guitarist who wrote most of the music; the lyrics were written not by the band members, but instead by a "reclusive Cornish poetess named Betty Thatcher." (This information was obtained from the liner notes to Tales of 1001 Nights.)
