The unthinkable occured on Tuesday,January 2nd.In the early morning hours
of that day,a young man fought for his life while his friend tried to aid
him.
According to an unknown source, 19-year-old AJ McLean was alone on the
lake and apparently moved too far out on the already fragile ice. When
McLean was found by 17-year-old Nick Carter, he was nearly frozen and
Carter refused to leave him there to die.
What happens after that is unclear-both Carter and McLean were found
nearly one hour later, suffering severely from the freezing waters and
icy winds of Lake Mukuga. The boys were rushed to Mukuga General by
ambulances that arrived on the scene in minutes.
Reporters have not been allowed on the scene due to the overwhelming hysteria
of fans gathered outside Lake Makuga Lodge, where the Orlando-based quintet
the Backstreet Boys, have been vacationing since last Sunday. We did, however,
receive a press release from Lou Pearlman, one of three managers to the boys.
"As of this moment, our concern is with these two boys. Although both have
received round-the-clock treatment at Makuga General, doctors have given
no word of any change in AJ's condition.Nick has suffered somewhat similar
injuries,but is conscious," says Pearlman.
"Our prayers are with our tour manager,Denise McLean, and her son...as well
as their family. What happened last night is an unknown mystery to everyone
but AJ and Nick, who have been unable to be questioned at the time. When we
know more,we will be keeping the fans informed," Pearlman concludes.
Now the question remains-what did happen that night on the Lake
Makuga Pond? Only the two youngest members of this R&B group hold the
answers. So,fans, say your prayers tonight and remember-keep the Backstreet
Pride Alive."
