U- Going back to the last album, Living Off Layla, Mark Torin
from the Bullet Boys sang on half the songs, and in my humble opinion, hurt the album greatly. What drove you away from the album, and the band at that time? And what brought you back?
JIZZO--THE BAND WASN'T REALLY TOGETHER AT THAT TIME--SKID AND I BOTH WERE DOING SOLO PROJECTS AND NEITHER ONE WAS REALLY INTERESTED IN WHAT THE OTHER WAS DOING--NO ONE, INCLUDING JON AND JOE, THOUGHT THE MATERIAL ON "LAYLA" WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO PUT OUT BUT IN THE NAME OF $$$ SKID FORGED AHEAD--MAYHEM RECORDS PASSED ON THE RECORD,I WAS DOING MY OWN THING, AND I DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER TORTUOUS RECORDING SITUATION SO I SAID FUCK IT...THEN IN 1998 I TRIED TO PUT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER AND GIVE IT ANOTHER GO---BUT LONG-SEATED PERSONAL ANIMOUSITIES DROVE JOE OUT, AND EVENTUALLY ME INTO L.A.GUNS....
U- Tell us about the upcoming book, whats the title? When and
why did you start writing your short stories? And when will the public get to purchase this collection of your observations?
JIZZO-THE BOOK IS CALLED"I GOT MORE CRICKETS THAN FRIENDS" IT'S A
COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES, MOSTLY FICTION--IN THE CHARLES BUKOWKSKI-VEIN--DUE LATE APRIL...
U- Your stories show you living in a shit hole apartment in L.A.
among crack heads and bums, are you still there? And would you move out if you could, or do you think that would lessen your creative edge?
JIZZO-YES I AM STILL LIVING IN MY SHITHOLE APT.--PART OF ME HATES
THE DECADENCE, AND ANOTHER PART OF ME IS DRAWN TO IT
U- What is your current relationship with your old LOVE/HATE
members like? Is there still a big rift between Joe and Skid and yourself? I hear Joe is holding some tapes "hostage".
JIZZO- THERE ARE RIFTS,NO ONE REALLY TALKS TO ONE ANOTHER--IT SUCKS
U- Is Skid doing the art for the new album, and are things OK on that subject in the LOVE/HATE camp.
JIZZO- MY FRIEND LEE DID THE PACKAGE FOR THE "LET'S EAT" RECORD--MY RELATIONSHIP WITH SKID IS UNFORTUNATELY A WORK-IN-PROGRESS
U- The new LOVE/HATE album... is "Let's Eat" the final title, and when can we get our hands on it? And will there be any International distribution, or will the rest of us need to get it on US import for mucho dollars?
JIZZO- "LET'S EAT" WILL BE OUT MAY 7 ON PERRIS RECORDS, AVAILABLE MAIL-ORDER VIA METAL EDGE MAGAZINE--APPARENTLY CANADA IS INTERESTED AS WELL JEFF SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GET YOUR HOT LITTLE HANDS ON IT SOON...
U- I know, you have said that the new album will be different than other LOVE/HATE albums, but how will it differ, heavier, lighter, you aren't going to rap are you?
JIZZO- YES, I DO RAP,BUT I ALSO SING, SCREAM, BELLOW, AND BLEAT LIKE A STUCK PIG---THIS RECORD IS MUCH HEAVIER THAN THE LAST COUPLE, YOU'LL EITHER LIKE IT OR YOU WON'T...
U- Are the lyrics on the LOVE/HATE album different compared from the past albums, lighter, darker, more personal, or will they be about every ones favorite topic (booze)?
JIZZO- I WROTE THE LYRICS AS WELL AS THE MUSIC ON THIS RECORD--I CAN'T REALLY BE OBJECTIVE AS TO HOW LIGHT OR DARK THEY ARE--YOU BE THE JUDGE...
U- Was it very different playing the guitars, and base yourself on the new album, how long did it take to record?
JIZZO- AT THE TIME,( THIS WAS TWO YEARS AGO)I WAS PLAYING RHYTHM GUITAR A LOT---I GOT REAL GOOD, AS PEOPLE TEND TO DO WHEN THEY PLAY 5 HOURS A DAY--THE RECORD WAS RECORDED IN TWO WEEKS...
U- I have heard that L.A. Guns will be doing a album of re-recorded hits with the original signer, is this true, and is it going to effect your position in that band?
JIZZO- THEY DID THE RECORD, IT'S DONE, THEY GOT THEIR PAYCHECK, AND NOW IT'S OVER--L.A.GUNS ORIGINAL MEMBERS HAVE KIDS AND DAY JOBS AND THEREFORE CANNOT REALLY TOUR, MUCH LIKE LOVE/HATE REALLY...
U- How did the recent Live dates go? Skid had posted some odd
"reviews" on the LOVE/HATE home page about strippers, and you guys trying to "off" yourselves.
JIZZO- SKID WAS JUST TRYING TO BE FUNNY....THE GIGS WENT OK, ALTHOUGH TO BE HONEST IT WILL NEVER COMPARE TO THE LOVE/HATE OF OLD--
U- Is there any chance LOVE/HATE will ever tour again, other than
Calli and the surrounding area? And if we can't see you with LOVE/HATE, will L.A. Guns be out touring? (Canada maybe)
JIZZO- L.A.GUNS ARE DOING THE MASSIVE POISON/RATT ARENA TOUR STARTING IN JUNE--IF LOVE/HATE TOURS AT ALL, EVER, IT WILL BE ME THAT INITIATES IT
U- If you had to label LOVE/HATE, most people would say Glam, but
something I have found with the fans I know, is that you are the only "Glam" band that any of us like. Most of us are into thrash, punk, death metal, goth, alternative, etc. So my question is, how do you explain LOVE/HATE'S cross over appeal?
JIZZO- THE MUSIC WAS SO GOOD IT STOOD THE TEST OF TIME--THERE WAS A PERIOD, BACK THEN, WHEN WE WERE REALLY REALLY GOOD---I LIKE TO REMEMBER ALL THOSE MOMENTS, RATHER THAN THE SUBSEQUENT BULLSHIT THAT HAPPENED LATER
U- You now have your own web site, did you do this because you
wanted to, or because in this day and age it is a necessity, like making music videos?
JIZZO- I WANTED TO HAVE MY OWN FORUM AND THE ABILITY TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE WORLD AS I SEE IT--AND IT DOES HELP SELL RECORDS...
U- Skid said on his page that he was also writing material for an
album, are we to see another one on the way soon, or has this been dropped?
JIZZO- AS FAR AS I KNOW SKID HAS NO MATERIAL WRITTEN, NOR HAS HE PICKED UP HIS BASS , OTHER THAN THESE FOUR SHOWS--IN YEARS--
U- There used to be a live CD available on the LOVE/HATE web page
(Live In Astoria), I understand that Skid is having trouble getting the recordings from the BBC, any news about this ever being available.
JIZZO- MAYBE BECAUSE THE BBC OWNS THEM---COME TO THINK OF IT, DOESN'T SONY OWN "BLACKOUT IN THE RED ROOM " AND "WASTED IN AMERICA"??BEWARE, THERE ARE CD PIRATES LURKING BEHIND EVERY WEB-PAGE...
U- Who are your influences musically, and do you listen to any new music?
JIZZO- INFLUENCES?--BEATLES, JANES,LOVE/HATE--I DON'T LISTEN TO MUCH NEW MUSIC, I FIND MOST OF IT TERRIBLY DERIVATIVE AND SOME OF IT IS DOWNRIGHT SHITTY...
U- You seem to be busier now, than you have in years, are you
enjoying it, or do you wish you could just relax?
JIZZO- I'M ENJOYING IT, AND I WISH I COULD RELAX..
U- Here is a double question for you, what do you like best about
the music business, and what do you hate the most?
JIZZO- WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS THAT I'M STILL ABLE TO KEEP A ROOF OVER MY HEAD, STAY YOUNG, ENJOY MYSELF, AND NOT HAVE TO WORK A STUPID FUCKING DAY JOB.....THE WORST THING ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS THAT THERE HAS TO BE ANY BUSINESS AT ALL...
U- L.A. Gun's new album, Shrinking Violet, will LOVE/HATE fans dig it?
JIZZO- YES THEY WILL, MAYBE EVEN MORE THAN MY RECORD---IT ROCKS MORE IN A MAINSTREAM DIRECTION, MINE IS A LITTLE BIT MORE ECCLECTIC--BOTH ARE GOOD THOUGH
