Getting Started

The first key necessity that you will need is to stockpile some food goods. The cheapest and easiest food to stock is canned foods. If you shop at a value store or at a food club warehouse, you can get a large amount of food for your money. Another benefit of buying canned foods is that they will last longer than other foods. Most canned items have a shelf life of up to 2 years minimum depending on the product. The key to successfully stocking canned foods is to buy foods that your family currently uses. This means that you are familiar with the food product. Also, if there is never a situation, you can put your canned goods to good use in normal times. You will need to mark your cans with a permanent marker. Mark the date that you bought the product. Keep a pantry of foods, usually you will already have this right in your kitchen. When you go grocery shopping, buy extra amounts of the foods that you currently use. Put them away for storage. When you need to draw food from your pantry, check the purchase dates. Use the oldest cans first, and replace them with the new cans. This will help you to keep a fresh supply of foods that you are accustomed to and that you are familiar with.
