Diane developed a friendship with hospital attorney Alan Birch soon after her arrival at the hospital. She comforted Alan while Alicia was being operated on. (1-17)
Her research was brought into question, and her grant was dropped, forcing the closure of her lab in the hospital and ending her research there. Upon learning this information Diane left Chicago and headed for Africa (2-23).
Her adopted father was a recipient of a heart transplant. (1-18) Had been in numerous foster homes by the time she was 6.
Began dating Billy Kronk when a couple needed advice on sex. (2-18). Came back to Chicago, when Billy decided to leave Africa (only to discover that Billy stayed in Africa for a few more weeks.) Began seeing patients when she returned to Chicago Hope. Proposed to Billy, he said yes. The wedding was called off after both get nervous. Billy then proposed to her, and she said yes (4-1). Soon discovered that she was pregnant. Was married at the airport, before Billy left for Africa for 4 months (4-7). Was nearly raped while on vacation with Lisa and Kate (4-9). Discovered a lump in her breast, and then found out that it was just a cyst. Suffered from severe bleeding while giving birth and almost died. (4-20) Gave birth to a daughter, Emily. Cut herself during an operation on an HIV + patient, and is now undergoing treatments to try and stop the disease from infecting her.
