In the Beginning...

B & B had its premiere in March 1987. It is one of the most successful American soaps in the world. i

B & B was created by William "Bill" J Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. The two are also responsible for B&B's "siblingshow" "The Yong and The Restless" . Both men served as executive producer until 1994 when Bill Bell's son Bradley took over the main responsibility for the show and its contents.

Syndication...

B & B is syndicated through New World International to more than 90 countries all over the world. The worldwide ratings are estimated to as many as 250 million people each day.

Ratings...

At this point (end of 1997) the show is rated nr 2 for the week ending December 12 1997. Its most dangeroud competitor today is Days Of Our Lives, who is battling for the #2 spot. It had several second place finishes in 1993, but last year it didn't hold up as well with ratings putting it on a #6 spot in the ratings. We're hoping B&B will stick to its ratings as they are now.

Production...

The show is produced all weekdays, Monday to Friday. All but two weeks of the year. Making the sum total of 250 recorded episodes every year.

The Editing, incorporating of sounds and music usually takes about 7-10 days after the actual recording of the show is finished.

Workdays and actors...

The workdays for the stars span from ca 8.30 am to 6 p.m. But the length and complexity of the scenes make it vary slightly.

Right now B&B has 16 stars on contract but also employs a number of actors who play recurring characters. Their contracts usually run for 2-3 years at a time, but are renewable 'at 13 week intervals. Mostly the actors work for 1-3 days a week, but sometimes more if their storyline requires it.

All casting is done through the in-house casting office.

Pioneers...

Back in 1993-94, Bold and The Beautiful was the first daytime drama to ever employ an actor with a mental disability. Keith Jones, who played "Kevin" in one of "Macy's" storylines, worked as a waitor in the Bikini bar. Keith was an African American with a mental disability. Kevin and the series recieved an EDI Award from p The National Easter Seals Society in recognition of "Equality, Independence and Dignity for People with Disabilities."

"Under 5"...

When children or infants are required in a storyline, as in the storyline with Mary/Margaret - Sheila's baby, a nurse and/or a teacher is required byt the Californian State to be present on the set. Thgere is a contract that goes by the name of "Under 5" which also requires a minimum daily rate. In some cases (as in the Mary/Margaret storyline) twins are used.

Locatin shots...

Locatino shots are taken aobut 2 or 3 times every year. Most recently in Italy. But there has also been location shots on the Catalina Island, The Barbados and Malibu.
