HARBOR CLUB/NIGHT
LORNA is standing and staring at the picture that HAYLEY has
given her, a look of disbelief on her face. She is silent for so
long that Hayley finally speaks.
HAYLEY
I know it's hard to understand--
LORNA
--Hard to understand? Not quite. This is unbelievable.
HAYLEY
As unbelievable as it may seem, it's true. This is my father.
LORNA
(speaking very calmly, but with venom dripping from her voice)
You little liar. How dare you come here and try to take advantage
of my mother. This is what you were going to do, isn't it? You
were going to use this to get on her good side.
HAYLEY
(Tears starting to run down her face)
I'm not lying! I'm telling the truth!
LORNA
How dare you! How dare you use his name and his face!
HAYLEY
And how dare YOU try to deny me my family without any
explanation! I have proof! I have paperwork....I have everything
you need.
LORNA
What I need is for you to tell me where you got this picture
from...why you have this.
HAYLEY
That picture is mine...it's been in my possession since I was a
little girl. It's a picture of me and my father.
LORNA
(almost silently)
He's my father.
HAYLEY
And mine. Lucas Castigliano was my father. That's why I came
here.
As Lorna stares at the picture, and Hayley watches her silently,
we:

CORY MANSION/NIGHT
CARL is pacing the room, as RACHEL comes in.
RACHEL
Hello, darling.
CARL
(distracted)
Hi.
RACHEL
What's wrong, Carl? You look upset.
CARL
Do I now? I'm worried - about Cameron.
RACHEL
What's wrong with Cameron?
CARL
I sent him down to Cory to pick up a package for me.
RACHEL
And? Don't tell me it was from your mystery admirer.
CARL
Yes, as a matter of fact it was.
RACHEL
So what was it?
CARL
I don't know. And Cameron hasn't returned yet. That's what's
worrying me.
Carl faces out to the French doors and we:
FADE OUT
BAY CITY POLICE STATION/SAME NIGHT
JOE is standing with the phone in his hand, JOSIE next to him.
JOSIE
What did she say?
JOE
She didn't say anything. We were in the middle of a conversation
and that's it - boom - we're cut off.
JOSIE
Maybe she's trying to call back. Was she alone?
JOE
No, Cameron was with her.
JOSIE
Why Cameron?
JOE
Peterson, what did you get?
PETERSON
(Hanging up phone)
Nothing. I don't know what's going on. It seems that all of the
staff at Cory has left for the evening.
JOE
Damn it.
OFFICER FLETCHER approaches Joe
FLETCHER
Captain, we just a call. There's a fire at Cory Publishing.
JOE
A fire?
JOSIE
Oh, no...we've got to get down there, Joe!
JOE
How bad is it?
FLETCHER
I don't know. I just heard it come in from the fire department
over the scanner.
Joe and Josie stare at each other.
