JAKE'S OFFICE AT THE HERALD-SAME DAY
KC is at a desk in the newsroom, proofreading something. Jake
stands in the doorway to his office and calls to her.
JAKE
KC, could I talk to you for a minute please?
KC
(walks over to Jake)
Uh-oh, what did I do now?
JAKE
(laughs)
Nothing that I know of. Come on in.
KC walks into the office, as Jake closes the door behind her.
Chris is sitting in a chair by the wall.
KC
Hey, Chris. So what's up?
JAKE
Chris has just been telling me what a great job you've been doing
as an intern, once that whole Cass/Anne mess was cleared up.
KC
(surprised)
He has?
JAKE
Yes, and I'm really impressed with your dedication, so that's why
I'm offering you a full-time job for the summer. If you're
interested, that is.
KC
Seriously?
JAKE
Yep.
KC
(ecstatic)
Of course! I'll take it! Thank you so much!
She hugs Jake and runs out of the office
CHRIS
Well, one down. Now we still need someone for P.R.
JAKE
Yeah, you got any ideas?
CHRIS
Nope, you?
JAKE
(smiles)
I just had a thought.
CHRIS
What? Who are you thinking of?
JAKE
I'll tell you later. I gotta go. (He runs out of the office.)
FADE OUT
FELICIA'S APARTMENT-SAME DAY
FELICIA is on a blanket on the floor with GABRIELLE as the front
door opens and
LORNA walks in. She sits next to them on the floor, taking
Gabrielle in her lap.
LORNA
There's my girl...did you miss Mommy?
FELICIA
Of course she did. How are you doing?
LORNA
(shrugs)
You know, as okay as one who's just visited the gravesite of her
fiance as one can be.
FELICIA
Oh, honey....
LORNA
Don't, Mom, okay? It was hard enough going without the sympathy.
I'm just dreading the sympathetic looks, the "I'm so
sorrys", the "Oh, poor babys" directed at
Gabrielle. I think they're part of the reason I've stayed away so
long.
FELICIA
You can't stay away forever. You've been missed around here,
Lorna. And this is your home, not California.
LORNA
To tell you the truth, Mother, I've been thinking about staying
in Bay City.
FELICIA
I'm not going to push you, sweetheart, but you know I'd like
nothing better.
LORNA
At the gravesite...I know Gabe was with me. I could feel him
there with me, and I could feel him telling me to let him go.
FELICIA
That's something only you can know, honey. But I do think that
staying here would help you exorcise some of those ghosts that
you've been carrying around.
LORNA
I know....and you're right. I want Gabrielle to see where her
parents fell in love, I want her to grow up with her grandmother,
and all of these people who loved her father so much---
FELICIA
--and love her mother--
LORNA
And who will love her.
FELICIA
If you want to stay, baby, you just let me know.
LORNA
I do....but I need to make sure I can be here, in Bay City. God,
Mother, no matter what I do, something is always going to remind
me of him. Every twist and turn, I'm always going to see
something. (She begins to cry, quietly) I still miss him so much,
Mom.
FELICIA
(Grabbing Lorna in a hug)
I know you do, baby...but it's going to get easier. You have this
beautiful little one, you have her. You'll never stop missing
him, but you have Gabrielle to help you. Gabe is still alive in
her, honey, and he always will be.
Helplessly, Felicia holds Lorna while she sobs and we:
FADE OUT
CORY LIVING ROOM-SAME DAY
RACHEL
You are really going to have a blast with twins, Vicky.
VICKY
I know, I can't wait. Its going to be so great just watching them
together. You know since Marley and I didn't grow up together. It
kind of feels like a second chance, as strange as that may sound.
RACHEL
It doesn't sound strange, its wonderful.
CARL
It really is a blessing. I'm very happy for you and Jake.
VICKY
(hugging Carl)
Thank you. That means so much to me. And I'm sure to Jake as
well. (looking at her watch) Speaking of which, I've got to meet
my husband at Carlino's in about five minutes.
CARL
Well, you'd best be on your way.
VICKY
I'll talk to you soon, then?
CARL
Of course.
(Vicky exits)
FADE OUT
JOE and PAULINA'S COTTAGE-SAME DAY
REMY walks over to Joe, who stares at her.
REMY
Don't take this the wrong way, but is it really so bad that
Tito's getting out?
JOE
He's a killer, Remy. Not to mention he conned both you and
Paulina.
REMY
I know, but maybe what he said is true. Maybe there's more to
Grant's death than any of us know.
JOE
Yeah, and I'm St. Anthony.
REMY
Joe, you don't know him! I've known Tito all my life. He's not a
cold-blooded killer.
JOE
And next you're going to tell me he's not a liar either - that
everything he did, he did for you and for Paulina. God, Remy,
open your eyes!
PAULINA
(to Joe)
Honey, calm down.
JOE
I just can't stand to see him get away with this! And after
everything he did, you have the nerve to defend him to me?
REMY
I was just saying --
JOE
Yeah, I know what you were saying!
REMY
You know, you're just as rigid as Tito said you were! You won't
even accept the fact that maybe you're wrong about him.
JOE
I've had enough of the "Tito's the good guy" act, Remy!
PAULINA
Ok, ok, we all need to think about this. Remy, Joe is very angry
at Tito, and rightfully so. Your defending him is just going to
make him angrier. And Joe, Remy has known Tito all her life. He
was there for her when no one else was. She feels some loyalty to
him. You two are never going to agree on this. So, what do you
say we call a truce and go get some dinner?
Remy and Joe stare at each other. Joe puts out his hand.
JOE
Truce?
REMY smiles and shakes his hand.
REMY
Truce.
PAULINA
That's more like it. Now, how about some lunch? I'm starved.
JOE
Sounds like a plan.
PAULINA
Remy?
REMY
Yeah, let me get my purse.
They all leave and head to Carlino's.
