ILLINOIS STATE PRISON--DAY

GUARD brings TITO out from the jail and hands him some papers to sign.

TITO
(while signing the papers)
This is all for real?

GUARD
Yes it is, boy, you're free to go.

TITO
Thank God. One more question. Where can I catch the bus to Bay City?

GUARD
Bus station is 3 blocks down the road, take a right at the stop sign.

TITO
Thanks.

GUARD
Family lives in Bay City, huh?

TITO
Yeah - well, the closest thing I have to a family. I just have a lot to make up for.

GUARD
Well, good luck.

TITO
Thanks. I'm gonna need it.

Tito takes the items that the guard slides to him and walks outside.

THE HERALD NEWSROOM-DAY

JAKE is talking quietly with CHRIS and KC as LORNA enters the room. They all look up and smile at her, and Jake walks over to her.

JAKE
Lorna! I'm glad you're here. Sorry to ask you to come out on a holiday, but I promise we won't keep you long.

LORNA
No problem, Jake. I know that the news doesn't stop just because it's a holiday.

JAKE
(grinning at Chris)
I knew there was a reason we hired her.

CHRIS
Yeah, well, no comment. Lorna, you look amazing! (He gives Lorna a huge hug) Have you met KC Burrell? She's Etta Mae's youngest daughter.

LORNA
It's nice to meet you, KC. Any relation to Judy Burrell?

KC
(grins)
My big sister. I'm the baby of the family. Judy's in Minneapolis now. Accepted a social work position.

LORNA
That's great. Judy really deserves that.

JAKE
Okay, enough of the small talk...let's get you out of here, Lorna. I know that little girl of your probably misses her mom.

LORNA
She's with Felicia right now. I can barely get my hands on my own daughter now that my mother's near her.

CHRIS
You're kidding. Felicia and....a baby?

LORNA
Yeah. Wild, huh?

JAKE
Hello, people, it's a holiday, I'd like to go home! Come on, let's get to the bottom of this and get the devil out of here.

Lorna and Chris both hold up their hands in mock protest, KC laughs and walks away. Jake, Chris, and Lorna begin to discuss the Herald.

BRAVA OFFICES-DAY

AMANDA and CAMERON are in Amanda's office. He walks up behind her, wraps his arms around her waist and kisses her on her neck.

CAMERON
I can't believe you have to work today.

AMANDA
Now that Carl has lost his mind once again and hired Vicky, I'm going to have to work everyday.

Cameron and Amanda begin kissing and VICKY walks in. She rolls her eyes.

VICKY
So is this what I have to look forward to while I work here?

Amanda walks over to Vicky.

AMANDA
Hello to you too, Vicky.

VICKY
So, Cameron, how's married life treating you?

CAMERON
Oh, I'd say pretty well, Vicky.

Amanda takes Cameron's hand.

AMANDA
Vicky's joining at Carl's request. So how do you want your name to appear in the magazine, Vicky? I can't remember what last name you're going by now.

VICKY
Funny, really funny Amanda.

CAMERON
Good luck dealing around here, Vicky. (Turns to Amanda) Listen, I have to take off. I have a few things I need to take care of.

AMANDA
Okay, so I'll see you at the house later?

CAMERON
(kissing Amanda)
I'll be there.

Cameron leaves.

VICKY
So now what? Did Carl give you my first assignment?

AMANDA
(Hands her a folder)
I hope you don't expect to be published right away, Vicky. You have a lot to learn first.

VICKY
Um, excuse me, but Carl and Rachel hired me to write for the magazine. They didn't tell me the Ice Queen was going to be in charge.

AMANDA
Get used to it.

VICKY
We'll see about that.

Smiling slyly at Amanda, she leaves the room with the folder.

CORY MANSION--DAY

CARL is seated on the sofa, thumbing through papers. As he puts a pile aside, the doorbell rings.

CARL
Claudia! Do you mind answering that, I'm a little busy at the moment!

He doesn't hear an answer, so he stands with a sigh and walks to the door. He finds a Fed Ex person at the door.

DELIVERYMAN
Carl Hutchins?

CARL
I'm Carl Hutchins.

DELIVERYMAN
I have a package for you.

CARL
(He signs the clipboard and takes the package)
Thank you.

Carl shuts the door and walks back into the living room, opening the package as he walks.

CARL
What have we here?
