OUTSIDE OF THE HARBOR CLUB--SAME DAY
As we see the outside of the Harbor Club, there are people
walking by and into the restaurant. DAVID strolls into view, his
hands in his pockets, whistling. He turns around to face behind
him and holds out his hands. A pair of hands grasp his and CINDY
comes into view.
DAVID
Back in Bay City. Don't you find it a little boring after the
ice-blue shores of Tanquir?
CINDY
Nowhere is boring with you, Halliday....(She kisses him
gently)....Besides, we can always settle for the ice-blue daggers
of Donna Love's eyes when we walk into her restaurant.
DAVID
I thought Donna had brown eyes....?
CINDY
Brown, blue, whatever. The only color I want to see eminating
from that woman's face is green.
DAVID
Tsk, tsk, my dear... I thought we were over proving ourselves to
Bay City.
CINDY
You may be, but I still have a few old scores to settle. None
that should involve bloodshed.
DAVID
Maybe we should have remained in Tanquir....
CINDY
What, and risk losing my chance to show Bay City that Cindy
Harrison has never been, and never will be, something they've
scraped off the bottom of their shoes?
DAVID
Why are their opinions so important to you?
CINDY
(shrugs)
Their opinions don't mean much to me. There was only one person
whose opinion meant the world to me---
LORNA walks up behind her, her face burning with anger at Cindy's
voice.
LORNA
---and he's dead.
Cindy whirls around to see Lorna, all color draining from her
face. She stares at Lorna, speechless.
LORNA
What's wrong, Cindy? Cat got your tongue?
CINDY
(stuttering to get the words out)
Lorn---Lorna?
LORNA
Very good. You remembered my name. Not bad considering you left
me for dead in a burning room.
DAVID
(puzzled, but curious)
And you are---?
LORNA
(turning her glare on him)
Lorna Devon. I'm sure Cindy's told you all about me. I'm the
fiance of the man whose opinions she claimed meant so much to
her.
CINDY
You're back.
LORNA
Oh, you're damn right I'm back, Cindy. And I want some answers
from you.
They stand staring one another down as we:
FADE OUT
INSIDE THE HARBOR CLUB--SAME DAY
FELICIA is sitting alone at a table, obviously waiting for other
arrivals. She is writing in an appointment books. A YOUNG GIRL,
around nineteen or so, and who appears to be about five and a
half months pregnant, is standing in the doorway to the Harbor
Club watching her silently. DONNA notices, and walks over to her.
DONNA
Can I help you?
YOUNG GIRL
Umm, no, I don't think so. I was actually looking for her.
DONNA
(disbelieving)
Felicia Gallant?
YOUNG GIRL
Yes. Her.
She pushes past a surprised Donna and walks to Felicia's table.
Felicia looks up at her, curiously, but smiles.
FELICIA
Hi. Can I help you?
YOUNG GIRL
You're Felicia Gallant, right?
FELICIA
Yes, I am. What can I do for you?
YOUNG GIRL
Well, I heard from a friend of a friend....that maybe you could
use some help. Like typing and stuff like that. I was wondering
if the job was still available.
FELICIA
(amused)
Well, the position *was* open, but it's no longer available, I'm
sorry. I've hired someone last week.
YOUNG GIRL
Oh. Okay. I'm sorry to have bothered you.
FELICIA
No, please, don't apologize. You're looking for work, huh?
YOUNG GIRL
(Nodding)
Yeah. And no one wants to hire you if they know you're just going
to give birth in four months.
FELICIA
Well, you know my name. How about telling me yours?
YOUNG GIRL
It's Hayley. Hayley Shepard.
FELICIA
It's lovely to meet you, Hayley Shepard. Will you join me for a
minute? My party won't be here for a few minutes.
HAYLEY
I don't want to impose. I'm sorry, I didn't meant to interrupt
your work.
FELICIA
You're fine. When are you due? (She motions to Hayley's stomach)
HAYLEY
October 17th. I think.
FELICIA
You think?
HAYLEY
I haven't been to the doctor in awhile. It might have changed.
FELICIA
Well, you've got my curiousity piqued, young lady. What about
your parents? Can they help you out, at least until the baby's
born?
HAYLEY
(Shaking her head)
My parents are dead. My dad died a few years ago, and my mom died
last year. I've been supporting myself ever since she died. I
moved here last month because someone told me they knew of a good
job, but that fell through. And then I heard about you.
FELICIA
I'm so sorry about your parents. So you don't have any family to
help you out?
HAYLEY
No. But I'll be fine. I always am. (She stands) Thank you for
your concern, Ms. Gallant. I really appreciate it.
FELICIA
(smiling)
Well, don't go just yet. I think I might be able to pull a few
strings for you.
Hayley gives her a questioning look, as Felicia stands up and
walks over to Donna.
FADE OUT
CASS AND LILA'S HOUSE
CASS and LILA walk in, carrying suitcases.
CASS
Charlie? We're home.
CHARLIE runs over to them and jumps into Cass' arms.
CHARLIE
Dad! Hi, Lila!
LILA
(Hugging Charlie)
Hi, sweetie. How are you?
CHARLIE
Great!
LILA
We missed you. Charlie, we bought you a ton of presents in
Hawaii. We'll open them later, ok?
CHARLIE
I can't wait.
LILA
I'm going to run upstairs and put some things away before dinner.
Lila gives Cass a quick kiss and leaves the room.
CASS
So, did you have fun while we were away?
CHARLIE
Yeah, I had a blast! Rebecca let me have a slumber party.
CASS
She did, did she? (Looking around). Well, the house still seems
to be in one piece.
CHARLIE
(Laughing).
Dad. Did you have fun in Hawaii?
CASS
It was a "blast." When Jasmine gets a little older,
we'll all go. In the meantime, young lady, shouldn't you be
getting ready for the party at the Cory's?
CHARLIE
Yeah, I forgot. I'll go get ready.
CASS
(Smiling).
Okay.
Charlie leaves the room as Lila comes back in.
LILA
Where is she off to?
CASS
She's getting ready for that party. We'll come back to get her
after dinner with Felicia and Lorna.
LILA
Oh, Cass, if this party is going to be too uncomfortable for
you...
CASS
No, not at all. Will you stop worrying?
LILA
Well, I can't help it. I just want everything to be perfect.
CASS
(Holding her).
It is. I have the perfect wife, we have the perfect family, we
just had a perfect honeymoon. What more do you want?
LILA
I just have this eerie feeling that something's going to go
wrong.
CASS
Like what?
LILA
I don't know. Not just tonight, but in general. I feel like we're
too happy.
CASS
Lila, nothing is going to go wrong. Trust me, everything's going
to be fine. This is our happily ever after.
LILA
Like a fairy tale?
CASS
Yes, just like a fairy tale. This is our fairy tale, Lila and it
isn't going to end.
LILA
I love you.
Lila smiles at him and kisses him softly as we:
